Without Hellena, Hermia isn't too sociable. She finds most girls intolerable and wants nothing more than to smother them all with a pillow. And from being a little know-it-all prat, Hermione doesn't make friends too easy. So they're pretty much stuck with eachother (until Hermione starts nagging Ron and Harry to death). So they start to hang out with eachother, and they grow as friends... Because sometimes you just need a girl who understands.
