wait so anthro lizards have regular lizards as pets? that would be the equivalent of humans walking their chimpanzees, so is that an exotic pet or am I just over thinking things?

Whatever can be tamed, really. Humans have been known to keep monkeys as pets, and even with the mediocrity principle in mind I wouldn't be surprised by some anthro species doing the same with their non-sentient kin.
