Hey, wait a minute... whose idea was it to put Kevin Ford in the game, knowing what his power is?Β Seems pretty cruel.Β Though I have to admit, Sofia really looks like she's ready to go through with it.Β And David's smiling, so maybe he and Sofia figured out some way for Kevin to actually get a kiss?Β Hmm, a mystery.
Even though I don't recognize some of them, I love all of the characters you've fit into the background.Β Santos and his big grin are the best, though Anole with the video camera is a great bit of detail.Β (Speaking of which, the insect on Laurie's leg is a perfect touch.)Β And it's always great to see Jubilee!Β Of the central characters, I like how you've drawn Mercury (can't remember her real name right now) best.Β I never found her to be a very good character (to be fair, I haven't read farther than Academy X #6), but she's visually striking and you have her posed wonderfully here.

This is a "truth or dare" version of the bottle game. No automatic kissing for the two people the bottle selects.
In this one, the bottom of the bottle points to the one who will ask the question or dare the one who is at the other end.
So, of course SofΓa would find a way to make Kevin speak about Laurie (who is the one interested, but is too shy).
Did you see Julian and Josh are directly in front of Victor's camera? And Julian is shirtless, coincidentally.
I do like Cessily (Mercury). She was not as "bad" as the others (besides Santo, none were, actually). Her attitude towards Laurie was more because of the time they were roommates, and Laurie simply kept driving people away with her attitude (even Cess, who is immune to pheromones). If you can (or want), try to get the Hellions mini. It shows what these Hellions desire, and they are not bad things to want. As a character, I liked these shades of her. Just like Julian, people (in universe) may not be able to get their motivations at first glance.

Ah.Β See, Spin the Bottle isn't played in my little corner of the world, so I know it solely by reputation.Β (Could you tell?)
Yep, I saw Julian and Josh.Β I wasn't quite sure it was Julian, not because you didn't draw him well, but because he doesn't have the same level of distinguishing physical features as the rest of the cast.
Yeah, I intend to get all the Weir/DePhillips New Mutants books.Β I dropped the series when they dumped the New Mutants title, and reading over the early issues of Academy X I dare say I was right to do so, but there are still points of interest in the way Weir and DePhillips handle the characters and I would like to see everything they did with them.

Yes. Get them all. Nunzio and Christina really cared about the characters, and gave them all interesting personalities. As I remember, they may have had "already seen" powers, but their personalities and how they affected how these powers were used was a main focus on the book.
Academy X, while still under their writing, was still the same book, just with the squads that had been their plan from the beginning. The real change came when the powers that be decided to make the book darker and also decided that N&C were not the ones to write that darker phase (although they were perfectly able to do it).

Nah, it really was a different book right from issue #1.Β As The New Mutants, the series was like year two of D.P. 7, just with teens instead of adults.Β Think about it: an institution for superpowered folks to cope with their powers, plots driven by character relationships, massive cast with lots of characters who flesh out the world of the series rather than drive the plot, etc.Β Or looked at another way, New Mutants volume 2 took the "school for mutants" concept, which had only been briefly touched on in Stan Lee's run on X-Men and the original New Mutants series, and finally brought it to fruition.Β Academy X wasn't "school for mutants"; it was "nation of superheroes", complete with military conscription, diplomatic crises, costumes, and even codenames.Β Not to mention that some of the costumes and codenames were ones real teenagers wouldn't be caught dead with ("Wallflower"?!Β "Wallflower"?!Β Good grief, Dani, what did Laurie ever do to you?).

Is Annie Ghazikhanian the one sipping tea? I thought that was Emma Frost because of the hair... I always liked Annie.

Un1c0rny In reply to JudeDeluca [2013-08-02 06:43:49 +0000 UTC]
I liked Annie Ghazikanian mainly because she was a normal person who'd lived a hard life, and then suddenly, it took a turn for the weird, playing with her emotions, her family, and her job, and she volunteered, throwing herself into her role as School Nurse for the Xavier institute and even cutting through some of the craziness with the X-men, including Polaris' temporary wedding day insanity, a weird spat between Iceman and Northstar, and mutant werewolves. As the weirdness increased, her life got better, but then they basically wrote her out of existence and things went back to Havok and Polaris in Lurrrvve, which didn't make sense to me. I always thought that Annie, Sofia, and Laurie were grossly underexplored as characters, and I'd love to see more of them (bringing Laurie back to life, giving Sofia her original powers back, and so forth).

Yes, that one is nurse Annie. I did not read a lot of comics with her, so I mostly based her appearance on how she looked in New Mutants.

It is over. It started as New Mutants, and then changed to New X-Men. Now it is Young X-Men, but there have been some (violent) roster changes.
Try to get the back issues, if you can. Those are good.

=] gracias.
I've been reading these things, page by page, across the internet for eons, and I'm finally trying to subscribe to one, and I *think* i'm going to go with young x-men, although The Runaways, The Young Avengers, and X-Force are all putting up a pretty good fight.

Runaways and Young Avengers are very good. You can get those on TPBs or digests, so I'd suggest to get them that way and subscribe to the monthly Young X-Men.

I hope that now that there aren't many students left to kill, they stop killing and start writing.
Good points for bringing classic characters like Forge, Nimrod, Selene and Stryker. Bad points for not handling them well...

In NYX. This was from way back before Academy X. From the time of the New Mutants. Josh still wasn't gold, and the kids didn't have codenames yet (officially).

Bleh!
Dragon Ball-ish art is bad when it's from Dragon Ball fanart.
For Marvel fanart, Dragon Ball-ish art will be the next big thing (once I finally get it right, hahahahaha).
And remember what we learned today, kids. If people want to see Gokuu in Toriyama style, they will look at Toriyama's Gokuu.

Think what you want about the anime version of Dragon Ball Z (I don't like most of it), but the original series were very funny. Really.
