The referee held down Jade as she regained consciousness. “Fight’s over, fight’s over,” she repeated to Jade. I’d seen fights before where guys started unknowingly going at it with the ref. To her credit, she didn’t tap, she had fought to the end.
I broke down with joy, kneeling and doing a rather poor job of concealing my excitement in front of Jade. Screw it, my last fight, she had another year. I pumped my fist in victory. I just won. I won the last fight of the year, and, we beat Utah State 3-2. Hell, yeah.
My family cheered wildly as my mom slumped down, exhausted. I finished my career, my collegiate career, with a record of three wins and two losses. Not bad, not bad at all.
