EXERCISE:  Take/Find a screenshot of a still in a “classic” animation movie and paint over with a modern update.

Wow, great idea for practising digital. Screen from animation and work with it in PS. I will try this method by myself.

Love how it turned out! I hate how a lot of animation studios are trying to make "3-d animated films" and i think a lot of them look like they were imagined by two year olds, (like "the nut job", "Legends of Oz," and exedra.) But if the films were made at the level in which you remade this image, i would think the world of movies still had hope. 
Your picture has beautiful lighting, brilliant coloring, and the shading appears to move effortlessly. Ursula is such a brilliant and evil character, and you can really see these characteristic in you painting.

Thank you and i fully agree with how animation movies tend to look nowadays, but I stay optimistic that the style will swing back into a more classy visual representation rather than going for high saturations!
