Still, it was nicely adapted as an animated TV Special by - amazingly - a British Animation Studio, Collingwood O'Hare. Not the first time it's happened, but worth pointing out:

I read the book and saw the cartoon movie they had out whenever they made it and it's not a movie theater type of movie.

I second that notion! I don't remember if I saw the movie or heard the news of his passing first but my childhood sheds a tear every time I think of the book.
