Using green in a gold thing...
I would have thought that'd look awful but it made it look so three dimensional!

I design them on the computer, which definitely saves a lot of time tweaking. That way I can zoom in and out, move one dot here or there and get it just right before I even build it.
And yes, I realize there is no green at all in the flash logo, but as you've noticed it helps 'fake' more colors than what you have to work with in the LEGO palette giving it a much more realistic look. Some old newspaper / print tricks used.
