The title says it all. I have been hit with the chibi stick again, and out came Nexia, my deadly chironex jellyfish mermaid. I wonder where she got that sign.

its a brilliant idea. And very well pulled off at that. i love it!
Chironex fleckeri right? actualy those memebers in the Cubozoa
class of cnidaria are one of the few speices that actualy DO Intentionally sting.
most speices of cnidaria are completely passive so its true the the vast majority of stings are by accident. however Cubomedusae are a more complex animal then Scyphozoans in the sense that they are typicaly more active hunters. They have greater sensory ability because cubomedusae have the a primative form of the sense of sight. they have visual receptor organs on each side of there bell, 24 in all. Using these photosensitve sensory organs they can actively track the silhouette of of animals in the water such are there prey. "they can see you" it is also known that Cubozoa are not drifters like the Scyphozoa and hydrozoa tend to be, infact they are strong swimmers able to move incredably fast for a soft bodied invertebrate of any kind.

Oh too cool!!!!! Gotta fav! By the way is she supposed to be a portugese-man-o-war? If so she is not really a jellyfish....but a siphonephore (closer to corals and sea anemones in terms of the body morphology). Man-o-war are uber cool because they look like a single animal (a blue bubble with many tenticles) but are in fact THOUSANDS of tiny animals working together to act like one big one!!!! Living in Hawaii I can tell you we have a ton of them here.....wish they looked as cute as your chibi though! Well done!

Nexia is no siphonophore, and yes I am familiar with them. Like I stated in the blurb she's a chironex jellyfish (or sea-wasp), a type of cubazoan. It is the world's most deadly creature, and is found off of Northern Australia.

Oops sorry....I did'nt see that in the note. Now that I look at her more she really does look like a cubazoan. What was the insperation for this chibi if I may ask? I never would have thought any form of marine invertabrate to be an insperation for an anthro-style art and this has to be one of the most original works I have ever seen! She and Nex (Chironex merman) are characters I have had for a long time. I just find box jellies beautiful and extremely interesting, as well as nudibranchs, cetaceans, fish etc. You might like ~Mermafied , a club with mers based on real sea-life, a great deal of which is anime-ish.

Grrr...everytime I go to the beach in Florida, the jellyfish seem to be attracted to me like I'm some kind of magnet. I always have to bring a bottle of amonia with me because I come back from the beach covered in stings.
Anyways, though, nice pic! It looks like she might be saying, "Hehe...what sign?"
