Description This is a week late--it was supposed to be my Valentine's offering.

Now--I know it's really, really depressing for a Valentine's thing, but since it's about love--well, it seemed appropriate.

I really don't know how much explaining this needs.

EDIT: Ok, I do need to explain the captioning. Long story short, my very old and very beloved collie dog had to be put down while I was out of town. We found out that he was just full of cancer, and he was going downhill fast. When I left I'd just had this feeling that I was never going to see him again, so I said my goodbyes to him as if that were the case, and I am very, very glad that I did.

At any rate, It was really, really hard to be away when it happened. A torture and a mercy at the same time. After crying myself hoarse (I already had a cold) and trying all over again to understand why we have to experience grief, the words you see written in the above piece came to my mind.
(and a million thanks and <3s to my dear friend who had me not only sick as a dog but sobbing in her dorm room--having a friend who will cry with you when you cry is a precious blessing.)

Losing someone we love is the most horrifying, crushing feeling--it makes you feel like there will never be any light or happiness in the world again. The one thing about it, though, that makes the pain worth enduring, is the love the came before.

Shade and sweet water, my dearest collie, Skye.

The sadness...
It may sound silly but it reminds me of the time my fish died...I mean they are short-lived, but it was partially my fault it died and I do love fish... when they're alive, of course
Looks like this page is all about loved ones lost..CONFESSION TIME EVERYONE~~~~
This comic is AMAZING--word and pictures

It doesn't sound silly in the LEAST. I had a fish in high school whom I loved like crazy--my heart broke when he died. Thank you for looking and commenting.

It isn't very often a picture will almost tear jerk me, but this did. D:

Very sad, very meaningful - very very emotional.

I had a border collie that we had to put down a few years ago... She was 16 and I was 15 - I've known her my entire life. Very very old dog, so very sweet and smart - I'm happy that she was put out of her pain, but I can't help but miss her dearly. :<

It's an incredible thing to know and love an animal that long. And yes--that's exactly how I feel about Skye. The last thing I wanted was for him to linger on in pain, but at the same time--he was (IS) family. I don't think we can ever stop missing creatures who've meant so much to us.

Thanks for looking and commenting.

This is...amazing. Beautiful, sad, and very touching, relevant to everyone who has experienced a death in their lives, whether a friend, family member, or a pet (though I consider pets family members as well, some don't, I guess).

I'm sad to hear about your dog's passing. It's almost a year now since my dog, Gracie, an Afghan hound, passed away. She died a few days before my wedding, which was good and bad. It was good because I threw myself into the final planning stages as a distraction, but bad because, well, I'll always associate that day with her death.

All in all...it's absolutely amazing what you've brought out in this mini comic. I've grabbed Gracie's collar and cried before. I did the same with my cats and their beds and even leftover fur when they died. It's this distinct feeling you can't describe...and it can always come back when you least expect it.

...*HUGS*

Oh man--your post made me cry all over again <3 <3

Thank you, and thank you for telling me about Gracie. Pets are such marvelous, marvelous blessings, but the holes they leave behind her just so aching, no matter what you do.

I have Skye's ID tag on a chain and I wear it most days--I love having it, it just caught me by surprise the first few times I wore it because it sounds on the chain exactly as it did on his collar, and so I found myself looking around for him when I heard it.

Thanks so much for looking and here's to loving our wonderful animals.

This reminds me a little of when I lost my grandmother back in December of '08. You think you move past it, but little things can bring you unexpectedly to tears.

I can't watch the music video for Carrie Underwood's "Temporary Home" for instance.

Beautifully done.

Oh, wow, Chazi this is SAD DX>
That's Aminas, isn't it? Please tell me nothing really happened to the poor fellow--oh, also, if you had submitted this on Valentine's day I would have had to KILL YOU for making the day depressing OTL

The art really conveys the emotions, well done.

Chajiko In reply to AngelicDragonPuppy [2010-02-22 06:22:36 +0000 UTC]

*Chortles* I guess it's a good thing it's late then!
No, it's actually not Aminas. He marries and lives happily with his gorgeous elfie wife for a very long time.
This is actually Jath and Celune. Due to the fact that she was given demon blood, she ends up outliving Jath by a really, REALLY long time. Like, thousands upon tens of thousands of years. She never stops missing him, and never stops grieving.

I'm glad that the emotions worked for you <3 It was my aim to communicate as much emotion as I could, and I'm glad that it seems to be working.

He was a marvelous dog and lived the best sort of life a dog could live--so it could have been much worse.

Thank you <3333
We got two new pups back in Sept because we knew that our two old dears wouldn't last much longer, and boy I tell you--nothing has made it easier to deal with than having puppies you already know and love around. Not only is there still someone furry and happy to see you to hug when you're crying, but you don't have to get used to a brand new puppy and personality right after you've lost the other. It makes the transition a lot easier.
