Description Well, I WAS being diligent about these and getting them done about once a week but lo and behold, I got busy again. Jasmine, your feature is long overdue, my dear. I have always really enjoyed Jasmine. I think she is one of the most interesting characters because she is very dynamic. She's so fun to watch because you kind of don't know what to expect out of her for a good portion of the movie. It's difficult to tell right off the bat if she's going to be good natured or not. Obviously from her role in the movie, you know she's going to be a protagonist but basing solely off of my first impression and not my preconceptions that stemmed from movie trailers, ect. , I have to admit I didn't think I was going to like her at first. She seemed whiny, pouty and spoiled the way she was slapping at the water and prancing around her father. It wasn't until she releases the birds from their cage that I began to see her point of view unfold. From then on, she was a joy to watch. I also like that she's not a Mary Sue type character. She's good at some things, and some things not so much. She has a caring nature but there is some of that whole princess that's used to getting her way syndrome as well. All in all I think she's a great character that has a lot more going for her then just her exotic origins and hot bod. So here is Princess Jasmine everyone. Enjoy!

So there you go. A gorgeous collection of art featuring the lively and quite feisty Jasmine. I love how creative people got with her! Several of her iconic palace outfit, but I love what some people did with it. How they dressed it up so beautifully. And of course several original garments, well done everyone! I really enjoyed doing this feature and I hope everyone else enjoys it too!

Jasmine! I've gained a lot of appreciation for her over the years due to her being a kind of understated character. She's feisty and resourceful, but she's also got her flaws. To me, she's very human and less like an archetypal princess. Interestingly, she's also the first (and thus far only) Disney Princess to not be the lead heroine of her film. She's the love interest. You know, I'm surprised she never got her own little spin-off or at least a solo song in the initial feature film.

Anyway, thanks a million for including my art here! I appreciate it! Moreover, you've shown me so many artworks that are now sitting in my favourites folder.

I've always liked Jasmine. She's quite different than the others in many ways. I think she's got quite a temper, she's impulsive, clearly doesn't always think things through and she's even a little spoiled if you ask me. But to add to your compliments, she's also very kind and warm. She cares for the well being of others and feels things deeply. She's the kind of person I think I'd like to have as a friend in real life. I also like the dynamic she has with her father. She doesn't agree with him and yes she tries to run away but she clearly isn't projecting all her frustrations onto her father himself. It seems that she at least understands that like herself, he feels bound by the traditions of their culture and that he isn't just trying to make her life miserable. She even tries to talk to him and tell him what she's feeling. I appreciate that. It shows the kids watching that you don't have to throw tantrums and put your whole civilization in danger to get your point across (I think you know where I'm going with this) Anyway, I agree that she should have gotten at least one solo in. Right after her first scene would have been an excellent time for it. I guess all the big solos were saved for the Genie. Aladdin's solo isn't even as famous as "A Friend Like Me" or "Prince Ali" (my personal favorite). I'm not too surprised that she didn't get a spin off though. The sequels weren't really that great, nor was the TV show. But as always, you're most welcome for the feature! I'm always glad to include your wonderful pieces! And of course I'm glad you were able to collect some fabulous favorites as well. That's always exciting!

The scene that always sticks with me for Jasmine was when she gives the hungry child a fruit, not knowing that she needs to pay for it. It's a very defining moment for her character. It establishes her as being extremely compassionate, but also highlights just how sheltered she's been. I'm also rather fond of the way in which Jasmine seems baffled by the fact that her father still insists that she marry so that someone can rule once he's long gone. In Jasmine's mind, I suspect she believes that she can rule on her own. At least, that's what I'd like to think. Of course, it could also be that she's disinterested entirely in ruling and would much rather be just like everyone else (which is most likely given everything she says and does).

Man, I feel like this has been in my inbox forever. We recently changed from Cable to Direct TV and ever since then our internet has been super unreliable. Anyway, yes I love that scene with Jasmine. You do learn so much about her from that one incident. I also agree with what you said about her bewilderment regarding the marriage arrangement. I'm also inclined to lean towards the opinion that she's rather not rule at all, especially since she was willing to run away just to be free. I don't know that she's disinterested in ruling altogether. It's just the stipulations that come with it. I think she cares about both her looming responsibilities and about her country but she doesn't think being queen is worth spending a lifetime with someone she didn't choose. Can't say I blame her there.

Do you think Jasmine wants to be a monarch that's for the people? That doesn't hide away in a palace? That shares the wealth?

I get a very anti-monarchy vibe from her.

Chalaya In reply to Femmes-Fatales [2016-04-19 03:15:32 +0000 UTC]

I really don't know, to be quite honest. I think she has great potential to be that kind of monarch, especially since she didn't shy away from the peasant children. There was a sincerity in her actions that shows she really cares and isn't just being fake. I tend to think that when she left the palace, she had no clue about hunger or poverty. She was sheltered within the lavish comforts of the palace. I think her intentions for leaving were actually selfish in that she didn't want to feel trapped, and then when she got outside she realized she bit off more than she could chew. I think that she is the kind of person who, after learning of the poverty in her kingdom, would not want to shy away but help in any way she could. I think she wouldn't necessarily want to "be in charge", but would want to be the voice of the people and to help them. I think she's kind of like me. I would want to do anything I could to help, but not be in the spotlight and get the attention. Jasmine would be the kind of person that sees the need, and then sets action into motion by working behind the scenes, doing this and that, offering advice to whomever is in charge and being very capable of swaying that person the way she wants them to go without having the burden of actually being in charge herself. I don't get a strong leader-vibe from her in the traditional since of the word "leader". I see in her someone who is able to make others do what she wants them to do, in the best sense. Like how she got Jafar into trouble for supposedly executing Aladdin. Jafar got verbally raked by the Sultan and Jasmine got off scot-free even though she broke about a million rules when she ran a way. That's pretty darn good if you ask me! I'm not sure if I answered your questions but I hope I did. : )

Femmes-Fatales In reply to Chalaya [2016-04-19 22:45:22 +0000 UTC]

You totally did! I could certainly imagine Jasmine ushering in a new era for Agrabbah by becoming a ruler for the people. I imagine she'd open the palace walls and start initiatives to help the impoverished children on the streets. Her being with Aladdin would further increase the possibility of this, particularly because he knows what it's like.

I would have liked to see how well Jasmine ruled as queen in films following Aladdin. Unfortunately both sequels were not good and didn't showcase Jasmine as a ruler. I guess seeing as how she's not the main character of her franchise we don't get to see her shine as much as she could.

You know, I don't think I've really ever seen the sequels. I know I'd seen some episodes of the TV series and I think I even own one of the sequels on VHS. Still, heck if I remember anything of them.

You're not missing much. Disney's straight-to-video sequels tend to be so so at best. Far cries from the originals to be sure.

I've seen them both. One is an anthology, while the other is more of an actual movie. They're not too bad. They certainly help to flesh out her character more.

I know, right? I mostly just got burned out after Pocahontas' piece didn't do so well. I'd really wanted to do Esmeralda, in the style I mentioned, plus Meg dress in gladiator gear. Then do Mulan.

Well, my Meg feature is coming up next and I have yet to do Mulan as well...just sayin'.

Really though, I understand getting burned out so if you're done with the series that's okay. You're got to do what you enjoy or else, what's the point?
