Description I feel very sad when I see people dress up and act like who they think others want them to, and then hear nasty comments about them as they walk past. People like that live constantly while wearing a loose mask, unsure of how to act, trying to please everyone to be accepted, all while going about it the wrong way and ultimately hurting themselves.

Here's what I say: TAKE OFF THE MASK! Forget what everyone else says. THIS IS WHO YOU ARE. Learn to find a part of yourself that you love, and show it to the world!

I hope one day everyone finds a part of themselves that they can come to love.

This is a really good picture and I can relate to it.

I've had so many people call me werid. Then everything I do somehow leads to theres something wrong with me. Either it's my ADD or my eyesight.

At one point it bugged me because I remember thinking who are they to call me werid. What is nomral?

I've just figured "nomral" is different for everyone. What's normal for me may be freaky to you but what's normal to you may be boring as hell to me. XD

And I say right on!
Personally, I don't think normal even exists. It's more of a fantasy or a thought than fact. Besides, the world would be a pretty boring place if every one was normal XD

I couldn't agree with you more. Everything about this is excellent! The shape, the hair, what it says within the face, and obviously the message! The only thing thing I can find that's wrong about it is the way you spelled the word "weird" (although I'm probably one of the biggest nags about spelling in existance). I woud do a piece like this (and I'm pretty sure I've thought of doing something like it), exept I lack the talent of drawing things resembling a human. Fantastic work!

Holy fudge, I never even noticed that... And I'm usually a freak when it comes to proper grammar. Huh. Thanks for pointing it out, I'll be more careful next time XD I'm too lazy to fix it, and I don't like touching drawings I've deemed "finished" again. Ah well.

Thanks for the comment, I'm happy it was able to reach you

This is a great concept ;u; I have ADD and slight hemophilia, so I get made fun of at school because of how long I bleed when I get hurt or because of my short attention span.Sadly, this is how the world works :c The people with problems are shunned while everyone else goes around all happy go lucky. We can only hope and pray that the world will change some day.

I have ADD as well, but I've learned to say stuff it to the world and let it shape who I really am
I hope you can find the strength be yourself to make people realize different is not a bad thing.
Good luck love!

I can relate to this, too. All my teachers in elementary school thought I should be put on meds because I drew very violent and hateful pictures. My Kindergarten teacher told my mom that I should get meds for ADD/ADHD, and my 1st grade teacher said the same because I scared her, apparently. Oh, well, at least life has taught me to be my own individual v.v; and then of course my teachers are scared of me because I wear chains and black. Society sucks in America, nowadays, you're expected to be happy-go-lucky here.

I'm glad you were able to find and be yourself even with everyone pushing you to be someone else
There's no point in being happy-go-lucky if it's not you, just keep being yourself and others might find the confidence to do the same

Yeah, maybe, one day people wouldn't have to act like someone they're not to be loved in society. Maybe, but we can only wish....

Hahaha, I can relate. I've had a painful childhood because I had ADD and wasn't "normal" enough for society, and because of that I've been addicted to Ritalin... = =;

ChambersWithin In reply to AnnBao [2010-06-09 20:54:59 +0000 UTC]

Wow, I have ADD too! And I can relate to that, I've never really been "present" so I have always had a hard time creating links with people and understanding what's "in"

I've given up on following tendencies though. It's too hard for me and far more fun to just be me

I hope you've been able to find yourself

Great piece, love the concept and I agree with what you say. Although taking off the mask may be easier said than done for some people... But I have learned to love myself and show off the best parts of my personality. Great work here!

Thanks
That is always what's hardest, but as long as people try, we can see so much more in each other. I'm glad you could!

Wow, this is really good!! You did such a great job with the hair... and I agree with you, people should learn to act how they want, without worrying about what others can think of them.. but a lot of the time, the need to be accepted and belonging is so crippling we'll do anything to try and change.

ChambersWithin In reply to TorvaBeast [2010-06-03 19:45:30 +0000 UTC]

It's hardest in an environment that refuses difference, like high school and it's clichΓ©s. I've seen a lot of people turn into a copy of the beautiful popular kid while shooting glances everywhere to see what kind of reaction they're getting

Thanks!

Heh I have been through high school, and to be honest, the whole clique thing sometimes doesn't change outside of work either.

Haha, okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a little. XD Work places are better than high school but you have to watch out for the drama queens.. some places are infested more than others. I worked at Burger King for two years and that place was HORRIBLE for drama, I was one of the two or three girls who didn't talk behind everybody's back. My current job however, is much, much better for the whole drama bit. However, the one woman I work with all day isn't a drama queen at all, so we pretty well stay away from the whole scene.

Good to hear And life in general is like that, we're never gonna truly get away from rules and cliques and gossipers, but it's good to know that there is hope

these things take time, even when your honest and true to yourself,we need to be grinded by life before we know who we really are, some become dull butter knife other sharp blade.

Well said! I agree, the hardships of life ultimately determine what we become. We just need to take a look see if we like the results
