Description        Matthew sighed as he watched college students walking, running, skating towards different parts of the campus. There was one thing he would not understand about his life, that he hated so much, and that was how he was treated like he didn't exist. He knew he lived because he breathes the same air as his classmates, ate food to survive from hunger, drank any liquid he wanted to keep from being thirsty and could speak like any other human being. The only problem was his voice, quiet as a whisper, could not be heard by others, therefore he was overlooked many times than not. Another thing that made him question his existence each day was the fact his teachers rarely called his name for attendance. When he received the sheet of paper to sign next to his name, his eyes would shake when he didn't see it.

The Canadian couldn't understand what was going on in his life of being invisible. Did Fate really want him not to interact with people? Destiny played with him for fun? Life laughed at him like a cruel joke that only existed for her entertainment? His heart always clenched in pain at those thoughts.

Why did no one see him? What was the use of him roaming around campus, going to classes only to never be seen?

These thoughts swirled in his mind, consuming him, bringing him into depression once again, but he was knocked out of them when he accidentally bumped into someone's shoulder. He muttered quietly his usual, “Excuse me. I'm sorry.”, before turning around and walking again. He knew the person wouldn't hear him, though, but he stopped once he heard a reply.

“It's fine. I should be the one apologizing. I didn't know you were there.”

He slowly turned around, gazing at a boy, who seemed to be near his age, standing there, back facing him. Matt cocked his head to the side. Did he really hear him? “I'm used to people not knowing I’m there.” He commented aloud. The boy's head turned slightly towards him and the Canadian spotted the black glasses he wore over his eyes.

“Really? That sounds lonely and cruel.” He turned to Matthew, very slowly, unsure where he stood. He knew the one he spoke to was there though. “I'm sure that there are people who do know you're there. I mean, I know.” He smiled.

Mattie stared at the other, glancing at the dog he just realized was beside the (brunette/blond/etc.). The Dalmatian sat next to his master, panting happily as he looked up at the pale blond. The Canadian sighed. The only creatures who couldn't see him were humans. He loved that animals noticed him but wished someone of his own species would as well. He thought how that wish might be coming true.

His purple eyes gaze back up at the other, who seemed to be looking left and right. “Ah...” He quietly noticed that he must be searching for his voice, which he was; once he made a noise, the other looked straight at him with that smile.

“Oh, good. I thought you suddenly went away.” The (nationality) sighed in relief. “You sure are a quiet fellow.” He chuckled, reaching out in front of him. “My name's (f/n) (l/n). What's yours?”

Matt stared at the outstretched hand, hesitantly taking it to shake. “Matthew Williams.”

“Nice to meet you Matthew.” (F/n) smiled bright, releasing their hands after a few motions. He felt his dog nudge his leg and tilted his head down. “I should get going to class. Leo isn't used to being stalled by other people.” He chuckled. Matt only looked at the dog, bending down in a crouch. Leo stuck out his paw for a shake and the Canadian chuckled, shaking his paw. “Ah, Leo seems to like you.” (F/n) could tell easily when someone shook Leo's paw. His smile never left his face. “I hope to hear you around, Matthew.”

Mattie stood back up, gazing into (f/n)'s glasses. “Uh, yeah. I hope to see you sometime soon...” He winced at the visual word but noted how (f/n) didn't react at all.

The (h/c) haired boy nodded. “Until next time.” Leo instantly stood back up and lightly tugged his master towards his classroom.

Surprised of this small interaction, Mattie stared at (f/n)'s back for a few minutes longer before turning around himself and heading towards his last class of the day. He suddenly wondered if his brother, the only person who noticed him since they're relatives, knew this person he just met and would like to talk.

He rarely spoke with his full American bother, Alfred. They're half brothers, different fathers, but get along well to a degree. He wanted to talk with him. Figuring that the blond would be free after another hour, he gathered together some questions he would ask. (F/n), the first person to speak to him and act like he could actually see, knowing his existence was in front of him, interested the Canadian.

When the hour passed by, which felt quicker than any other days, the pale blond set out in search of his brother, knowing only one place he would be at this time of day. His long legs transported him over the campus to his destination rather fast, and he soon opened the door to the game room.

“Alfred!” His quiet voice shouted for the American, who fell off the couch he was standing on while playing Mario Kart. Matt chuckled a little, guilty at causing his brother to harm himself. “Alfred, are you free right now?” He walked over and peered over the couch.

The wheat gold blond blinked his sky blue his a few times before sitting up. “Well, technically no, but for you, bro? Yeah.” He hopped up back onto the couch, un-pausing the game and listening. Quite the multitasker, Mattie always thought. “What's up?”

“Well,” he mimicked his brother in a start, sitting beside his brother and taking up the second controller there, “I wanted to ask you about someone I just met on campus.”

Alfred glanced at his left, eying his brother through his squared glasses. His eyes soon spotted his Japanese friend, Kiku, staring at his brother. He smirked when he thought that other people only saw the objects Matthew held but never him. He sighed in sympathy for his almost twin brother, wishing he could help him out of his invisible existence. “Shoot.” He consented Matthew to ask whatever questions he had.

Matt played as Peach in the game, turning a corner, nearly falling into the abyss but saving himself. The Canadian didn't really know how to bring up (f/n) besides stating that he's blind. He sighed himself. “The guy...is blind.” He hesitantly stated. “He has a dalmatian as his guide and his name is (f/n) (l/n). Would you happen to know him?”

“Know him?” The American laughed. “Dude, he's a frickin' legend in the game club!” He turned to his brother, pausing the game, to which the Canadian pouted slightly. He wouldn't admit it, but he enjoyed playing video games as much as his brother. “He's the Pinball Wizard on campus!” Mattie raised an eyebrow as he glanced at his brother. “Legit. I’m not kidding. He's THE Pinball Wizard! Like, from the song and everything!” His gestures showed his excitement about the guy and Matt smiled to himself. “We have a few pinball machines here and he's played all of them. He's the wizard, man. No one can beat his high score. We actually played the song while he was here one time before. He sang along, not deterred at all while playing. It's awesome to see him play!”

A sigh escaped the Canadian, happy to see such a highly positive reaction about (f/n), but there was a minor flaw about him being one hundred percent like the Pinball Wizard from the song. “You do know that in the song, the kid is deaf, dumb and blind, right?”

Alfred pouted. “Why do you always have to remember the specifics? He's one third of that, so doesn't it count?”

“No. It doesn't.” Mattie pushed up his curved glasses that began to fall down his nose, shaking his head. “Is that all you know about him?”

“'Course not.” He turned back around and continued the game. Mattie quickly turned so he didn't get left behind. “He's an ace at Math, wiz at Linguistics, knows his history stuff and has fun with science, even though he can't really do any of the lab stuff, 'cause, you know.” Al shrugged. “I've known him since the first semester. I’m surprised you just met him, but I guess I shouldn't say that...” He trailed off, knowing he was about to cross the territorial line soon if he didn't shut up and speak about something else. “So, how'd you meet him?”

“Oh, uh.” Matt blushes slightly, embarrassed that their meeting was actually bumping into each other. “We bumped into each other. Literally.”

A laugh. “Dude, seriously? Leo wouldn't let him run into someone, though.” He hummed. “Wonder why to pooch let him run into you.”

Thinking about it, Matthew wondered the same thing. Usually guide dogs would make sure their master didn't run into anything or fall downstairs. He lost concentration on the game as he pictured the dalmatian in his head, panting happily up at him. Did he do it on purpose?

“Dude, stop daydreaming and play!” Alfred bumped his character into Matthew's on purpose to knock him off the screen. The Canadian huffed and vowed revenge, which the wheat blond merely laughed at. “By the way, Kiku's been staring at you since you picked up the controller.”

At the mention of his name, Kiku jumped, focusing on his computer again as he drew doujinshi's of his favorite anime pairings. Matthew sighed when he glanced at his brother's friend. He knew that the Japanese boy could vaguely see him, only clearly when he was wearing his glasses as he drew on his tablet or laptop, but the memory of the Canadian never surfaced to the student's mind.

“Invisibility and the will of people forgetting me.” Matt mumbled. “I hate my life.”

“Don't say that.” Alfred bumped his shoulder against his brother's. “There are some people who notice you. Take Francis and Arthur for example.” The pale blond frowned.

Francis and Arthur. Indeed they noticed him but they were like Kiku. Arthur always asked who he was once he clearly saw him and heard him speak. The Englishman never meant any offense but it hurt and aggravated Matthew to no extent. He wasn't the kind to blow up though, so he always deflated when around his energetic brother. Francis was the same, but different all the more. The Frenchman only remembered Mattie's cuteness and French dialect he loved speaking in. Any other time, the flirt would forget him completely when his eyes spotted a new target to flirt and bed in one night.

“On second though, never mind.” Alfred chuckled a little, noticing the dim look in his brother's face. “How about Katy? Or Ivan?” At the mention of the Ukrainian woman, Mattie pouted; the Russian name caused the Canadian to shiver. “Right. Forgot. Not on good terms with him either.”

It wasn't that he wasn't on good terms with Ivan, it was the fact that the Russian made it a habit of choosing the seat Matthew was already sitting in for his seat. It unnerved him when the Russian always complemented the comfortable seat, which happened to be an actual person, the Canadian, who suffered underneath the giant. He liked Ivan but wished he would notice him more often and realize he's sitting on someone. His legs would be grateful, as well as his pelvis which is always squished uncomfortably under his weight.

“Then... I guess (nickname) is the only one, huh?” A hopeful smile appeared on Alfred's face. He knew that Mattie would begin to like (f/n) and thought of the possibilities the two could hitch up. I mean, (nickname) is gay, and Mattie is bi, so it could be a possible match made in heaven. He knew his brother wouldn't think the same.

“Seems so.” Mattie looked so sullen, sad that people didn't notice him. Maybe things would change for him if he did hang around (f/n) more on campus.

It was another three weeks until he saw (f/n) again. The (h/c) haired boy walked along the pathways, separated from the crowd of people walking past him as Leo guided him. Matthew noticed this instantly, wanting to go over and talk with him, but a blond Brit he knows walked up to him instead. He backed off, able to hear the conversation from the distance he currently kept.

“(F/n), thank god I caught up to you.” Arthur spoke with a smile. The other stopped, turning to the accented voice speaking to him with a smile.

“Hello Arthur.” Leo nudged his knee and he pat his head. “What is it?” He asked politely.

“Oh, I just wanted to return your notebook.” The Briton held a (f/c) notebook which the blind student slowly took back as he chuckled. “You left it on the desk. You probably missed it when you checked if you had everything or not.”

“Thank you.” (F/n) nodded, leaning his head towards the eavesdropping Canadian. “Leo, go fetch.”

Understanding his master's words, the dalmatian ran over to Matthew once his leash was let go. The pale blond jumped, not expecting this, and Arthur merely looked confused while (f/n) turned a little towards the Canadian. During this time, (f/n) put his notebook in his backpack. Leo grabbed Matt's pant leg and pulled him towards the other two. The introvert shriveled a little, embarrassed, blushing and confused as well. How did he know I was there?

Once near them, Arthur squinted his eyes before widening them. “Alfred! Why are you skipping class? You shouldn't be-”

“This isn't Alfred, Arthur.” (F/n) interrupted, stating the fact. “It's Matthew.” He leaned down, feeling for the leash which Leo held in his mouth after he let go of the pale blond.

“O-oh. Beg my pardon...” The Brit glanced away in embarrassment.

Matthew sighed. “It's fine. You've done this before. I’m used to it.” Arthur glanced back at him with confusion written over his face. Matt scowled, which really came out as a pout. “You don't remember me, do you?”

“Ah, no, I do!” Arthur, frazzled, denied that he forgot the other person. “Y-you're... Um, Alfred's twin brother.”

Mattie shook his head. “Close enough, but no. We're half brothers.”

“Really?” (F/n) tilted his head as he gripped Leo's leash. “I didn't know Alfred had a brother.”

“Yeah...” The Canadian pouted at Arthur, who stood awkwardly, fidgeting in his place.

“Well, I better be off. I have my own lecture to prepare for.” Arthur patted the (brunette/blond/etc.)'s shoulder before waving as he took off.

The blind student stayed silent as Leo panted, pawing at Matthew, who chuckled and bent down to pet him. “Is that what you meant?”

He looked up once (f/n) spoke. “Huh?”

“I remember something along the lines of you saying people don't normally see you. Could that also mean people forget you? Like Arthur just did?” He turned to Matt, an obvious frown on his face. “It's obvious that you do know Arthur and he should know you, but he didn't. Is that what you meant?”

It was Matthew's turn to stay silent. He frowned as well, standing slowly. “Yes.”

“Well that's bull shit.” Anger rose in the blind student, gripping the leash in his hands.

The Canadian, surprised at the anger he saw in (f/n), stuttered his question that bothered him. “H-how did you know I was here?”

“Oh.” A smile came back on the other's face. He patted Leo's head. “Leo told me.”

       Mattie raised a brow. “How?”

“Well, we have a secret code system of understanding each other. If I told you anymore, we'd have to kill you.” He smiled playfully, Leo agreeing with a sneeze. Matt laughed. “Ah, that's something I’d love to listen to often.”

       “W-what?” A blush swept over Mattie's cheeks.

“Your laugh.” (F/n) pointed out. “It's nice. Reminds me of bells in the wind, or a wind-chime. Yeah, a wind-chime. Those are beautiful.” The blush on the Canadian's face worsened. Leo nudged (f/n)'s leg. “Oh, I should get home.”

Blinking, Matthew spoke before the other could leave. “You live locally?”

“Yes. And you?” (F/n) didn't turn around just yet. He wanted to stay with the other a bit longer.

“I dorm here. My brother and I share a room.”

(F/n) nodded, pushing up his black sunglasses. “You should come over some time. My sister would enjoy your company as well as my parents.” He smiled brightly at Matthew. “Maybe I could invite you over for dinner someday. My parents would be happy to see I do like inviting friends over.” He chuckled to himself. “And Leo would probably love playing with you. I have a feeling that animals grow on you easily and you have a kind aura that attracts them, letting them know you're a good person.”

Matthew sputtered. “W-well, that would make sense, I mean, all the animals I’ve met so far have been kind, and even my pet polar bear is kind, though I think he forgets I’m his owner from time to time, a-and our cats love laying on my lap over Alfred's. H-honestly, animals are about the only living creatures that know I’m here...” He trailed off.

A kind, sorrowful smile appeared on (f/n)'s lips. “Well, I guess you can add me to the rare list of human's that know you're here.” He stepped forward cautiously, slowly reaching towards Matt. The pale blond stared in shock as the hand landed on his chest. “Chest.” The other mumbled aloud as he slowly made way to Matthew's shoulder. “Shoulder. Damn, you're tall. Same height as Alfred?” He chuckled.

Matt couldn't stop the blush spreading on his face. “S-sort of. I’m half an inch shorter. Six foot one and a forth.”

“Hah. Specifics.” (F/n) retracted his hand after patting Matt's shoulder. “I'm only five seven.”

“That's about average, I believe.” The Canadian calculated to see if he was correct or not.

“Average shmaverage.” The (h/c) haired student stepped back and turned around. “I don't like average. I like quirky, different and interesting.” Peering over his shoulder, he casts a grin towards Mattie. “And you seem to fit all of those categories.”

“H-huh?!” Stunned, Matt responded dumbly, bewildered. (F/n) laughed as he waved a farewell, walking away with Leo at his side. “W-wait! What do you mean?” He only got a finger to (f/n)'s mouth, a sign of it being a secret, as an answer. His blush ran up to his ears and down his neck. He definitely was going to make another visit to the game room and tell his brother what just happened. So much happens in such a small time of visiting with (f/n). I wish I had more time with him. I like being noticed for a change.

Don't worry. I'm only five foot one in real life, but the height I usually give my male characters are five foot seven. So, generally, the male readers I have in my stories are five foot seven in my head. I know that people who read my stories aren't always going to be that height, but it's the height I use. It's a comfortable height for me to use.
