Description This is a drawing I did for my Visual Development class! This is the second drawing of a key moment out of three drawings. Our assignment was to choose one out of five fairy tales and create our own version of whichever we chose. I picked The Ugly Duckling!

My version takes place in Ancient Israel, where golems exist. There are two kinds of golem which are separated by appearances. THere are Pretty Golems, which are lovingly crafted and made to help mankind by doing good deeds, such as repairing and constructing buildings. Then there are the Ugly Golems. These golem are made by the hands who hold hatred for the world, whose goal is to use these golem for destruction.

The main character, The Ugly Golem, has been under the command of many masters over the years, used for evil purposes. However it is different from the rest of its kind. It does not wish to cause chaos. It wants to do good, like the Pretty Golems. But due to its differences, its dream can never be. In face of this, it still searches desperately for a new, kind master.

It's search goes horribly wrong when it once again becomes the pawn of an evil man, who uses it to destroy his home village from which he was banished for committing a crime years ago. Unable to disobey, the Ugly Golem obeys his master's commands and destroys the village (this is the scene in this drawing).

Once the village is destroyed, the Evil Master abandons the Ugly Golem, as it has fulfilled his commands. The Ugly Golem however is left wrecked from causing so much destruction. It lies on the ground, unable to get up.Until something catches it's attention.

Sparkles.

All around the Ugly Golem are beautiful, sparkling crystals. It then notices a man, who is holding up a crystal to it. He motions to the Golem, showing that all these beautiful crystals came from within its own body.

The Ugly Golem is beautiful, proving that true beauty comes from within.

And at that moment, the kind man becomes the now beautiful Ugly Golem's master. And together, they rebuild the village, and continue to do good deeds for many, many years to come, finally granting the Ugly Golem's wish.
------
That's my story! I hope I described it well enough, I seem to have a lot of problems wording it and pitching it to the class especially!

Thanks for looking!!!

I never heard of golems until I played Wild Arms 5, so this is so neat to see. You did a good job

making your own version of the Ugly Duckling story! Your teacher was a loser not giving you a good grade

on this. The ending to this is really beautiful, I'm so happy it ends happily ;u;

W-O-W! I just can say nothing! I'm stunned! This is such a great picture!!! The atmosphere , the perspective , the light and the shadows... ! Awesome! It all fits so perfectly and creates a magic feeling. I love the kind of houses you draw in the background! They look very strange and well-known at once. The whole scenery has something funny (running men) and something really dark and ominous at the same time! Great! The dark shade of the golem's master underlines his evil aims while the golem looks very sad... just a bundle of power and lost own will.

I love the story... your version sounds much better to me then the original story... especially the end is beautiful ! Great art! Very, very great art! So much in this single picture! You're a very great artist! I expect that you get an 'A' for this!!!!!Β

AHH ha ha! Well he does wear glasses so maybe he can't see! Ha ha I'm just kidding, it's just the way he is. I can see things in this that could have been done better, so I understood his critique (but still sad, regardless!) I thank you so much, your grade for me means so much more to me!! AND YES!!! I will upload the color piece very shortly!

I can't understand him! I love and live your golem art work AND your story... maybe there are little mistakes in them but together they're unbelievable good! Of course... this picture is not perfect, but art don't have to be perfect, just complete. And your picture connected with the story IS completely. There's nothing more to do on it. Don't worry about that grade... teachers want everything to be perfect, but they can't see that sometime perfection is not the answer! They search for comleteness and just find perfection. To make something perfect you need meticulous accuracy Β but to make something complete you need talent ane feeling. And you have both of it!

I love your art and I'd never change a brushstroke on it! They look wonderful the way they are... who knows, maybe if they would have been perfect they wouldn't give the watchers those wonderful feelings! If there's one line too dark or to light it gives the picture something living and real! It feels complete! So don't worry about teachers... paint your pictures th way you want it to look!

I'm so sorry I never got to this comment until now! I honestly remember how difficult it was to respond because this is just the most beautiful and inspiring thing I've been told about artwork....

You've taught me the difference between perfections and completeness. I never could put what you said into words before until you said it, and I'm so inspired. Thank you so much, this is just the most incredible comment ever, you are the best! Your work also contains both things, the talent and feeling that makes a piece complete!!! You are so right about everything, the best thing we can do is to paint what we want to paint!!
