Because brave, hard-working tiny kittens also need a nap.(I’ve always thought Diana was “daddy’s little girl”, especially since she was drawn to Artemis first instead of Luna during her introductory episode)

Ok, on a more serious note, I think of the whole thing with Diana going to Artemis first as a bit of a stable time-loop. I saw that episode again this week and she says that it was her mother who told her to be careful not to talk to humans or let a stranger pick her up and that she should find her father first (even though it caused a huge misunderstanding that got Artemis in trouble for the rest of the episode).
30th Century Luna obviously remembered how it had happened, so she gave Diana the instructions that would make sure it happened that way again/originally.
Sometimes you really have to feel sorry for Artemis.

It strikes me as a similar sort of thing to Usagi. Usagi hasn't had Chibi-Usa yet so she hasn't grown up enough to be motherly. Luna hasn't come around to the idea of actually settling down with Artemis yet, so having (and raising) his child isn't something that she's set up for right now... she's busy trying to mother Usagi
