Maybe odd, but I can imagine a odd scenario between: Naraku - Inuyasha - Kikyou/Kagome. Where Naraku harbored unrequited feelings for Inuyasha, and some of her actions in the story is in attempts to maybe find a way for Her to have Inuyasha to herself and have a peaceful ending. It would make Naraku even more of a tragic figure.
I just say so, because with the picture it looks like Naraku in this picture is hiding a ton of sadness behind those eyes but afraid to let it out.

Mhm. I can imagine in sense it started as a child, Naraku as a younger person, was protected by a attack from Inuyasha and found someone who she saw as someone was strong enough to protect her. Sadly though by whatever means, she ended up on a death bed, maybe illness; making a pack with for a 2nd chance with life for the demons, seeing no other way. Still though it wouldn't be enough for her, because by that time Inuyasha & Kikyou were already becoming a couple and now she is this walking incarnation of evil.
So she becomes jealous, and attacks Kikyou as "Inuyasha" in order to the steal the jewel, become human again, and destroy the relationship. Still though Kikyou was able to fight back, and live long enough to pin Inuyasha to the tree. Kikyou falls dead, and Naraku is distraught to see the love she coveted pinned to the tree all because of her.
The quest in a sense would be for Naraku to get the jewel, in order to return her back to her humanity after she sees Inuyasha awake; she sees that she has a 3rd, and maybe last chance to get the man she desperately wanted.
