Yo I had a dream exactly like this but in reverse. I know I know, I let the kid live. Seriously, red and purple are great color choices for a sinister feel.

The dreams that start in your own bedroom and quickly get weird always leave an odd taste in my mind. It's very striking and I think it does a lot to convey this weird, dream-like quality.
