Description Someone ask for this a while ago (curiously it was someone from Argentina).

Consider that if there is someone that Knows how horrible is a civil war that one is México (and Russia and France too) , keep in mind that the mexican revolution is the bloddiest war ever fought in America, its number of deaths reached millions and destroyed the country.

----------------------------------- MEXICO AND THE SPANICH CIVIL WAR

That´s as close as México has ever come to forgive Spain , truth told, that was also a political move, México had just finished the revolution and the maximato (a period where president Calles govermentfrom the shadows) and needed to show himself as a strong, stable and decided nation. When the spanish civil war started, México used the oportunity to act.

Since México was under a socialist regime (more or less) under president Lazaro Cardenas he couldn´t support Franco, so he supportted the republicans, and was basically the only country that stated his suppor (Russia who was against facism did so too later).

Remmember that this happened just before ww2, the tensions where really high and everyone was on edge and preparing for it, any declaration of support could have started the war a bit earlier and Germany was already on his own thing.

The spanish civil war was fought also under the curtain by other coutries , England tried to impose a naval blockeade (it failed) because France was selling weapons to Spain (at the beginning) , the Axis was secretely supporting Franco, USA was bullying latinoamerica to stop them from helping Spain and everyone but México and later Russia declared themselves neutral in this issue.

HOW DID MEXICO HELPED.

First of all México offered asylum and shelter, specially to kids , hundreds came and the mayority stayed in México or came back later to settle themselves here (México does this refugees of the world, and inmigrants or migrants, by law) .

Second by providing ammunitions, supplies, soldiers, weapons, and even bought things from other countries in his own name to later pass them to the spaniards.

And also there are many pressumptions of mexicans in Europe being spies and México sending bullets prohibed by the Ginebra convention, but we´re so good that no has ever proven it

This is an article (in spanish) that explain good enought and is not that long [link]

Here is a small video explaining a bit of the spanish civil war and 2 songs of the time, I suggest you to look for a remix or rock version of this songs:

France didn't do anything for republiacans. The politicals problems were so importants, no one in gouvernement sent help. There was just socialists and communists volunteers who went in Spain alone.

Awwwww....this was really cute!!! Especially the hug at the end! I'm pissed that Hetalia doesn't have any Latin American countries except Cuba! (I'm Puerto Rican) So nice!!! Not to mention tht Mexico and a couple other Latin American countries are helping Spain now with the crisis.

chaos-dark-lord In reply to thepagansun [2012-12-16 18:12:49 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, hetalia needs more latins, It seems that in the 5th season there will appear at least 2-3 latinamerican countries, I guess Brazil and México, perhaps Argentina or Panama are the most likely candidates.

Not only helping, but receiving A LOT OF INMIGRANTS, México a bit less due to the drug war, but even so due to the lack of work there were getting more. Actually Brazil is "suffering" from it, due to Brazil´s boom, spaniards used they tourists visa´s to enter Brazil to get a job, however Spain was being an ass about the visa requirements for brazilians, so Brazil decided to apply those same requirements for Spaniards.

Yup! Sure does! Aww...Cuba needs his Caribbean siblings as well! Tehehe...

Yeah, I heard. These Europeans need to understand that they need to help us too if they want us to help them. Especially our "daddy" Spain. (For me our home country is our mother). Well, that was fair of Brasil. They're right.

do you know any more cites where I can learn more about this. I read that Jews were a big issue since they were refugees coming into Mexico because of the Spainish Civil War. Can you help me out a bit? ^^U

chaos-dark-lord In reply to RavenLunar9 [2012-12-11 23:41:53 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I know a bunch of references, but hey are in Spanish I´m afraid, if you want them I can pass them to you.

The jews weren´t that muchof an issue, México has always received refuges, and the main refuges during the spanish civil war were the kids from the republicans, then after Franco, México received the ex-franquistas...
better check program, this is about the spanish inmigrants to México in the last century [link] , it speaks about those from the spanish civil war, an this one is about the germans [link] (the mayority of jew refuges were from Germany) , but as I said, they´re in spanish.

Yeah,kinda...but we practically forgave Portugal ( except for what they took from us like gold and diamonds.Money is serious stuff here! ) and togather with it we lead the Portuguese Language Community ( the other countries on it are the other Portuguese speaking ones like Angola )

No in latinamerica has forgiven the europeans for the pillage .

I didn´t know Angola speaks portuguese.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kalika12 In reply to chaos-dark-lord [2012-09-05 01:31:19 +0000 UTC]

Angola does speak Portuguese along with some other countries colonized by Portugal like Mozambique,Guinea-Bissau,East Timor...and some places like Goa that is in India and Macaw, which is in China.
And I know that Portuguese and Spanish are very alike. So much that on a region of Spain called Galicia ( on Portugal´s north border ) people speak a language called galego-portugues,which mixes Portuguese and Spanish very well!

Wow, that was really nice of Mexico. That's kind of touching to hear about actually, even if it was partly a political move.

Btw, has Mexico forgiven Spain yet?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chaos-dark-lord In reply to PisceanChic101 [2012-06-22 15:29:59 +0000 UTC]

Nope, México has not forgiven Spain (and probably never will forgive him completely), however due to the 200 years of independence anyversary in 2010 at least México has began to understand that who he is know is the mixture of both prehispanic and hispanic heritage and its slowly (and reluctantly) beggining to appreciate the hispanic parts like arts.

I love this deviation, it shows all the postures during the Spanish Civil War. The only thing i can see is that you use the present spanish flag. Our flag during the II Spanish Republic had three colors (red, yellow and purple). Poor Spain.

Sorry for my late answer and thanks. I will change the flag in the week to put the flags of both the republic and the dictatorship. yep, poor Spain. I would also like to make another strips about the international brigades later on, but that will have to wait

Not exactly, México still recents the colonial times a lot and still has a deep grudge, however Spain is also like the 4th commercial partner for México and despite the past and unlike USA, México somehow still has some sort of morals... sometimes.... maybe?

ConorXPetunia [2012-05-05 04:08:22 +0000 UTC]

I always imagined that there were two Spains (in Hetalia terms):

"Spain" - Represents Isabelline, Alfonsine and Republican Spain (as well as modern day Spain)
"Nationalist Spain" - Represents the "old" Spain, including the Carlists and the Fascists. This was the Spain that did all the terrible things to the Latin American colonies. He's "Spain's" older brother.

Hmm...you know what, I might do a profile for my idea of Hetalia Spain. >

chaos-dark-lord In reply to ConorXPetunia [2012-08-16 15:01:01 +0000 UTC]

I think that rather than 2 Spains there was one but he was staying "forcefully" with Franco (like a hostage of sorts).

If you do that profile send me the link
