It's kind of hard to explain -- for the most part, I just start screwing around trying to make a fractal, refine what I like, massively change what I don't like, and repeat this until I get something that I'm happy enough to call finished, or until I'm tired enough to be sick of working on it XD

Probably spent four days off and on working on it, though the final day was a bit more "on" than the rest of them. Β It took a while to get the basic shapes that I wanted looking the way I wanted them to, and while I'm still not entirely happy with it, I'm not unhappy with it either XD

I've not watched more than a handful of episodes from that series. Β Besides, adding that in would probably be detrimental in some regards because I wouldn't be easily able to integrate it consistently...

It's the structure of the "strokes" They look like they were painted with oil colour or something. That adds a nice traditional touch to the whole image.

Hah, I will admit that your description of a "gateway" might be very correct, even if I didn't realize this until nowΒ 
I suppose that has had some influences on the color scheme, as well as the "travelling from dark into light" effect. Β I just have been braindead since midterms this week, so I really must be off my game to not have seen that when creating this ;_;

I love the texture and motion in Van Gogh's artwork -- and while I have a few things that are probably a bit more closely related to either of Van Gogh's Starry Night variants, I definitely am glad that you find similarities between the two pieces
