Description
Another tribute to Van Gogh, whose style has been fairly influential on my own artwork despite the rather major gap between traditional art such as his and my own artwork.

Whoever said fractals can't look like traditional art, can't look natural, or look too mechanical hasn't seen my gallery. A bit of a bold statement on my part perhaps, but one that I think I'm able to make given how aggressively I've been pursuing these types of fractals.
When I gained an appreciation for artwork (after losing it in elementary school), I found myself captivated by geometric structure, texture, color, and the fantastic. That has been something that's guided what I've made over the years, though being able to actually create abstracts in ways like this satisfies my own internal desire to at least be able to represent some of of these things.
Van Gogh has always had some amazing textural art, but I also really enjoy dealing with the abstract where I can. I suppose fractals generally are considered abstract to the artistic community given that they generally are nonrepresentational, so my desire to 'paint' using fractals actually adds a some elements that can be conceptualized by viewers more easily. In the grand scheme of fractals, however, this stuff is abstract!
Anyways, the top part is intentionally waterlike, and I did want that brighter blue to carry through over a night sky: Note www.artble.com/imgs/0/5/1/9602… , his "Starry Night over the Rhone" is represented in the top half, while the more famous "Starry Night" is in the bottom half.

Yay for nostalgia! Absolutely, if there's a message you want to tell the world about art, for heaven's sakes tell it.
I think abstract has that great "show, not tell" power. It's very nuanced and cerebral and that's why I love it too. Your stuff does sometimes resemble real objects, but of course it's very fantasized and shown in a completely different light, which is why it's so interesting.
Oh my gosh, I've always loved the personality of Van Gogh's strokes and textures. He's one of those artists whose pictures say "I do what I want. So there!" And I just have to love that. I didn't realize your reference to his Rhone painting, very nice!
Man, if I had the time and money, I'd get myself Apophys and start figuring it out too. Fractal art has definitely become one of my favorite forms of art. It is another creature entirely than any other kind of art.
