Background

Personality: Scarlet has some issues; sometimes she behaves like a normal horse, other times she struggles to comprehend how to be a horse. A lot of the staff say that, due to her history, she might honestly believe that she is human and attempts to mimic what she sees; when this doesn't work around other horses, she gets frustrated and acts out both against horses and humans. She does love to be around people but she can be a little too personal; between stopping her from leaning against the leads and the constant nuzzling, it can be a hassle to groom her. Scarlet loves to please her rider and, on a good day, will do whatever is asked of her. On her bad days, you can be sure you'll have to put up with a fight. Her interactions with Lenore have signified a very close connection to the two of them. Scarlet still pulls her usual stunts, but Len takes it in stride and, with Skye's help, coaches her though this difficult process. She might not behave like a normal horse, but she really tries her hardest. On her bad days, you can make her feel a little better by giving her a sugar cookie.

History: During the off season just before Christmas, Scarlet was born to a black Arabian mare and sired by a bay Arabian stallion. Much to the entertainers surprise and delight, they felt that she would be the one to save their struggling enterprise. They began training her almost instantly; she would spend her entire day training until she was put away for the night with her mother until the season came about again. The filly did help to make a profit, but the circus continued to struggle financially and by the next winter season, money was so tight, the staff could hardly afford to feed them. Still, they continued to put on the show and as the crowd thinned as quickly as the animals lost weight until inspectors demanded to shut it down. All of the animals were put up for sale; some were taken by rescue groups, others were bought by private investors, and the rest were sent to auction. Scarlet had numerous admirers looking to purchase her; the winner was an exotic collector who had no experience with horses, merely wanting her as something to parade about and show off at his parties. It worked for awhile, but being kept alone with nothing to do took its toll on her. She began to act out in any way that she could; she would bite, kick, scream, crib...you name it, she did it. Having enough with the horse, he put her up for sale. There were many inquiries about her, but any time someone came to look her over, they would turn tail and run. The collector dropped the price several times to no avail; with no choice left, he placed her in the nearest auction, where she was bought by the only person willing to buy her; a man who would take her to the nearest slaughter plant. With fate on her side, Scarlet was saved by a rescue group along with a few other horses. They worked with her and gave her everything that she wanted; a small herd to call her own, freedom to run in a pasture, and slowly introduced her to riding. Unfortunately, she was still set in her ways and struggled to release her vices. They placed her up for adoption with a warning saying that she was riddled with vices and bad manners; for months, no one even bothered asking about her until they got a call from Shadowed Moon Stables. Skye has worked with her since and has gotten the mare to realize that she is safe here. She has her days when she can be ridden with no problems and others where its a struggle to get her to remain calm. Much to everyone's delight, she seems to have taken to Lenore and has calmed quite considerably.
