This is my fave in the animals because you have captured his loneliness so well...he looks pensive and hesitant at the same time...many people don't think animals have definite expressions but they do! Your understanding of anatomy is awesome too...its hard to draw from photos without losing some of the depth of field on the animal itself and often the drawing comes out "flat" but you have NO issues with that here!! LOVE IT!

Thank you so much!!! Β It really means a lot to me. I saw your art and I love your eagles!! You do water so well, that's something I struggle with. I'm glad you like his expression, that was what me fall in love with the picture in the first place.

I know what you mean about staring at the picture like that! Β I do that every time I have fur texture or a lot of shading. Where do you get these pictures that you reference? Do you get permission from the photographers? That's something I've found difficult, trying to find photos I can reference without basically stealing from the photographers.

it really helps putting a loose or very light grid map on your work...i havent used that method very often but it really is working on the water for the zebras...as to copyright infringement...thats a very touchy and grey area...i HAVE bought photographs from some stock photo websites but when you want to buy 25 because they are soooo beautiful it can get very expensive!! the secret to avoiding that is when you do find something you would love to do put it on a different background or in different context...reverse the picture...add another animal from another picture...there are many ways you can do it but the biggest things that will make your picture look set up is light source and depth or sharpness of shadows...make sure the light source between the photos is pretty much the same or it will look "off"...also perspective is huge in combining photos...if your prime animal is laying down and you are drawing at eye level, dont draw the second animal as if you are looking down on it...again it will look "off"...there is so much more i could tell you but its hard when its just typing lol...and some of it is practical work stuff too...and then there are the shows and competitions you can go to as a youth...anyways we will keep chatting and i do plan on going down to see elaine hopefully soon...
