Me: You can't die on me Solaire, I won't let you!
Solaire: It's...too late...my good...please...can you...play that song...for me? ...One last time...best mate?
Me: *Looks at him with teary eyes and slowly nods as the song "Take On Me (MTV Unplugged)" by A-Ha begins to play*
Solaire: *Tries to sing along with the song, but slowly grows tired in his voice and limps in his friend's arms before fading away*

This...is an absolutely beautiful piece of artwork. I discovered your original little mini trilogy of Nino's reunion with Solaire in Anor Londo a year ago, but I never saw anyone do fan art of this absolutely heartbreaking moment of the game. I mean, I'm sure I missed such artwork of this scene somewhere, but this right here...the transition of Nino's facial expressions is incredible. If it were to be put into the form of a story, I feel it'd go something like this.

"Nino...It's dark. So dark..."

At this moment, it was not only Solaire's sun that seemed to fade. All of Lordran seemed so much darker as Nino desperately clung to the fading body of the once jolly Astoran knight. The man she'd come to adore more than anything or anyone else was dead; Felled by her hand. Chosen Undead? Reigniting the First Flame? Succeeding Gwyn? What did any of that matter? None of that existed anymore. As the body of the brightest beacon of joy faded from her arms and his soul phased into her body, Nino's whole world went as dark as the man who kept her sane, grounded, the man who gave her hope through her unbearable tribulations in Lordran. The final words from his no longer smiling lips cast a veil upon her heart which clouded every seed of joy and cheer he planted within it. All Nino could do was weep. Twin waterfalls of tears poured down from her golden eyes onto her blood stained hands. Her anguished cries echoed through the ruined, hellish halls of Lost Izalith. Only the uncaring ears of demons would hear her voice.

Using ever ounceΒ of strength just to keep myself from breaking...
I can only watch you walk... By...
Holding onto everything even when my body shatters.
I will never let you pass even when my tears run dry.
Beating with our hearts as one everyone I know is praying.
I will strike you down do or...
Die...

The problem with Dark Souls though is that time seems to not flow exactly...right.

Given how Solaire could be used as a summon at the very end, unlike everyone else, it is likely that he had already passed the area and linked the fire in his world. so while technically yes you have small brief moments where he is in your world and you have to directly save him....by the time its the end of the game Solaire (IF thats even his name...he might be a god) is long gone. Not sure though on DS2 last boss fight though given how Vengarl is chilling as a head so I'm unsure on what his (and Benhart's) role in the monarch is.

And of course Dark Souls 3 REALLY mixes up time. So at this point who the hell knows what death and undeath means. Stupid Gwyn and his stupid ideas. Oh well, time to drink onion man beer!

Vengarl only appears when you aquired him as a friend actually (had a full converstation with him) then he appears. Dunno if you have to kill his rampaging body too to get him as a summon...

Solairs and Sigmeyers Quests are so sad.
It doesn't matter how hard you try, you can't save them at the end

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Saphirone-Arnes In reply to MasterCortez [2016-02-09 21:33:49 +0000 UTC]

It's possible to save both. Hard but not impossible.
Solaire, 2 options :
Use the poison mist at the door near the shortcut where you are supposed to fight him before fighting the centipede demon, and hope that it will kill that god damn bug who will parasite him.
Second option : Join the Chaos covenant, who ask you to give 30 humanity to the chaos lady (she is a nice person at least...), and it will open the shortcut before the boss fight, where you can kill all the bugs and save Solaire, he will fall in a deep depression, but he will be here against Gwym.

Sigmeyers (oignon bro) can be saved if you managed to kill all the monsters with him still alive when he try to make a diversion. He will be later reunited with his daughter at Ash Lake.

I tried both, Solaire cost me a lot of time to gather all those humanity in the sewers, but sigmeyer is for sure the hardest to save.

but man, imagine having Siegmeyer as a summonable NPC. The guy wields a +15 Zweihander if I remember correctly. The amount of damage he does against the Chaos Eaters is proof that he's no pushover with a sword. Imagine Siegmeyer stun-locking Ornstein with those overhead slams

SPOILER FOLLOWING:

Yeah that is correct, but what I meant was exactly what you wrote
Solair will fall in a depression, for not finding his sun, that what I meant with "you can't save him"

And you'll find Sigmeyer dead at ash lake next to his daughter, at the end, which shows that you've done everything right in his quest.

I just think it's a worse ending for both of them :/

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Saphirone-Arnes In reply to MasterCortez [2016-02-11 01:10:39 +0000 UTC]

Ho forget this detail.

Sigmeyer died by the hands of his daughter if he survived the fight at Lost Izalith with less than 50% of his health. If you managed to keep his life higher than 50% he will be sitting next her, talking, and giving you a stoneslab titanite.

And even depressed, I'm sure that Solaire will be able to keep going, he cares too much about other peoples to end his own life, he will certainly try to help more people even if he wouldn't care anymore about himself.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

MasterCortez In reply to Saphirone-Arnes [2016-02-21 16:35:16 +0000 UTC]

Are you sure about Sigmeyer?
As I know. When he survived the fight at Los Izalith with less than 50% of his health and you talk to him, he will die infront of you and end his quest.
When he survives with more than 50% you can complete the quest by talking to his daughter next to his dead body at ash lake...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

zizh0u In reply to Saphirone-Arnes [2016-02-17 11:02:05 +0000 UTC]

That's incorrect. <50% health after the Chaos Eaters ends with him just dying there, >50% he makes his way to Ash Lake. His story always ends with Sieglinde killing him there if you have done everything else.

I defy you to find a video *anywhere* of him alive and well at Ash Lake with a repeatable method for doing it. It never happens.

I would say how sad this made me, but I (by some strange miracle) saved solaire on my first run. I relied very heavily on pyromancy at the beginning so when I found the fair lady and discovered that I get pyromancies from her, I farmed humanity until I got more pyromancy, it was a sort of side affect that I discovered this other area and got some free souls from these weird jumpy bug things

though its still sad I sort of ruined it for my self so this had very little impact on me
