Description HDR composite of 3 separate exposures. Taken shortly before sunset last week, on top of Edelweiss Mountain in the Black Hills. Unfortunately, by the time the sun actually set, it was covered by a thick layer of clouds so there wasn't much color on the clouds over Harney Peak in the middle of this image.
Edited with Photoshop CS5.1 and Topaz Adjust

EDIT: I uploaded an updated version with a more accurate color balance and exposure, though my monitor hasn't been calibrated in a long time so it might still be off a bit.

This is a very interesting shot with a lot of really wonderful texture scattered everywhere.

To rate based on the categories...
Vision: 4 stars. I think this shot excels here. 2 rocks on the sides seem to frame a passage down into the valley. The composition is rather inviting and really draws me in to the scene. I feel as if I am about to start an epic journey through this landscape.

Originality: 3 stars. While this is a very nice shot, it is a landscape, shot from a traditional angle. Not bad in any way shape or form, but nothing crazy out of the ordinary here.

Technique: 2.5 stars. I wanted to rate this higher, but there appears to be some issues here with the processing or even the quality of the image. This is listed as HDR processing, and while this image may have benefitted from HDR, highlights in the sky still seem blown. Additionally while I usually go for a saturated look, the colors in this image seem like they may be a bit overdone and come across as a bit unnatural looking as there seems to be a reddish cast over the image (might just be my uncalibrated laptop monitor through).

Impact: 3.5 stars. Still a very nice image, and definitely evokes a feeling for me, as I mentioned earlier, I just want to jump into this scene and start some epic journey.

I think possibly a lower perspective could have helped to really have these two rocks stand out as some sort of gateway would have been great. Additionally, I think possibly with some better lighting conditions this image could have stood out even more without needing to use any sort of HDR tonemapping.

A wonderful image overall, thanks for sharing!

Thank you for the great critique, I really appreciate the feedback!

Also, I'm sure your monitor is just fine, but I know for a fact that mine is off by a bit. Maybe more than I originally thought, so that could be the reason for the unnatural colors.

Thanks again.
