Erica stood there, observing as Zayne conversed with an unfamiliar member of royalty who had appeared out of nowhere. Erica sensed that something was off. Zayne was not known for being easily swayed by girls. She paid close attention to what the newcomer had to say.

"Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't your friend two years younger than you? Perhaps having someone by your side as a ruler would be wise."

"Please don't involve Erica in this, Carmine. She already has her own issues to handle in her village.

"Zayne, please hear me out," Carmine said as she gently took hold of his arm. "Although she was born a princess, she doesn't behave like one, and you're aware of that. She wasn't taught the mannerisms of a true royal."

"What are those ways?" Zayne asked, defensively standing up for his friend. His tone changed almost instantly. He hesitated slightly as he heard the door to the study shut, and sighed quietly, knowing that Erica had heard everything from that very moment.

"Ultimately, it is up to you to choose between the recently crowned queen and the ambitious princess." with an evil glint in her eye Carmine left the study, leaving Zayne to think about it.
