Description C-133 preserved at NMUSAF, Dayton.

There were not many turboprop-powered strategic airlifters, and today the genus is solely represented by a handful of Antonov An-22s that remain active. The USAF's only operational entry into the field was the Douglas C-133 Cargomaster, procured to provide MATS with a long-range heavy airifter with an unobstructed cargo hold. Powered by a quartet of Pratt & Whitney T34s, the first Cargomaster flew in April 1956. Douglas would go on to turn out 35 C-133As and 15 B-models. The NMUSAF's Cargomaster set a world record for propeller driven aircraft in December 1958 when it took a 117,900lb payload to 10,000 feet.
