Description This is pretty low quality work but sorry, you've gotta bear with me through all my poorly done studies   Although, I got the colors right, the rest like the overall atmosphere, the hair(OMG I SUCK AT HAIR), and the face structure are lacking. Conclusions:
1. I need to work on hair.
2. Need to create more atmospheric feel in the image.
3. Since I don't like redoing my lineart layer, so I need to be careful and not be very rough with it.

Photoshop cs6
Thank you for all the love and support and all the lovely birthday wishes

(O/////////////////O)   I really don't think i'm illegible to make tutorials on digital painting. Maybe a few more weeks until I get a hand of painting then i'll give away some process steps with explanation, though I'm not good.

Your just a natural at digital painting!!!!
My issue is I can't get that painterly look, the colors won't blend
If that is how you feel its all your choice XD

Hmm.... Maybe you should try out photo studies. TBH I'm trying really hard to get that painterly affect so I'm gonna be doing a lot of photo studies. I just want to find my own painting style that I'm comfortable with.

I've been doing that with traditional art XD. Its just I can't get the blending, i've watched some of the control paint videos and did the exercises no problem, I just have trouble applying it to a pic, or maybe its the way I'm using the brushes?

charliethestargazer In reply to SirenAnimations [2015-06-05 12:53:49 +0000 UTC]

Hmm.. then it must be the way you're using the brushes because I paint using the blending techniques taught by CTRLPaint. Lowering the opacity and flow helps, there are some brushes which respond better to really low flow(like 2-10%) but right now my fave brush is this one: pheberoni.deviantart.com/art/T… by pheberoni, IT works great at any flow or opacity even at 100% !!

Okay so I tried using those brushes and this happened:

Like, any tips or do you know what I am doing wrong?

No You're doing perfect, you're blending it all right! Just work on the form, the terminator always bends on rounded objects.

The form, terminator? So is it just the direction I am blending? What direction would you blend when doing a face? I'm so scared to try another digital painting because I don't want another catastrophe.

First of all, STOP! Stop being afraid of creating. If you're gonna stay scared, you might now have any fun in the whole unknown process called painting. Always start thinking "I'm gonna paint today and I have no idea how but I will but I'm gonna DO IT" and you might have some happy accidents where you like what you doing but you don't know how you're doing it. Tip: make a copy of the psd. For example, you made a sketch you really like but you're afraid that you might ruin it by painting over it. Make a copy of the psd and paint, this way you won't need to be afraid of a ruining your sketch. Like what you paint so far, save it but if you wanna do some extra stuff to the painting then just make another copy of THAT Copy. The worst thing you can do to your art is being afraid of it. Now, form and terminator are terms used when painting or shading. The whole idea of shading is to make things 3D.  Stan Prokopenko is the best who’s a great teacher and teaches everything as you go along. He's teaches in traditional media but the techniques apply to all forms of drawing.

watch portrait fundamentals first, then the figure fundamentals, And then the anatomy series which is still ongoing.

Oh lala
not bad at all!
are you flipping the canvas often?
that would help with the structure
but good job overall

Oh yes i do, the face structure was fine, it was the hair that messed it up for me really. Need to practice hair.
