Description This was merely just a test to see how well I could do with comic panels.

I think I did fairly decent.

Also, this is supposed to respresent my "daily life" as you would call it. At times I would try to find people who plays Super Smash Brothers Melee and when I do find someone who plays this game, they are cocky about what little skill they have.

Then, when I play against them, it ends up in a 20 loss streak for them. Afterwards, they either get tired of playing SSBM or they won't play against me again.

I've only played against good people in college. Like 3 or 4 people I believe.

Chaser belongs to me of course, but as for the random cat guy I sorta made him up.

Fifth panel, is how I play, no matter what. Muh game face and furious tapping. LOL.

Ha! I have this same problem! I tried holding back so they'd play more, but it wasn't as fun. This also applies to co-op games I've played. XD

;-;

Oh why do I suck so much?

...and you say in college? I need to find these said "Smash Players." Ya know... so I don't suck so much.

Haha, nicely done. Smash is a great series. So many great stories like yours come out of it.

I can relate a story- My younger brother was always better than me at Smash. One time we were in a shopping mall and there was this other kid at the demo console playing the original Smash Brothers, taking all comers, talking down to other players and generally being an arse. So my bro goes in and the whole time this other kid is trash talking and sledging, right up to the point that my brother beats hims soundly and just quietly says, 'So where's your skill at?' The other guy is pissed and puts my little brother in a headlock, at which point I did some serious looming to prevent things from getting violent. When he didn't let go of my brother I threatened to rip his head off, so he stomped off.... crying.

It was hilarious.

Lol wow man. That's a pretty crazy story.

As for me, this sorta happened recently. I was in college at the time.

There was some MW2 tournament that my friends were having in their dorm room, a fairly small one. I'd have to say around 10 people were there at the time. So near the end of the tournament, I randomly asked a question "Anyone here plays melee?" which the winner of the tournament claimed he did. He also said that he was pretty good and he was sorta cocky about it. I decided to test his skills so I brought my gaming system to the dorm room and began playing him. During the matches, I could tell he was getting frustrated though. He started picking stages like Poke Floats or Brinstar Depths (The rotating stage) but he still kept losing. So after the matches he left quietly and all of my friends were laughing at his defeat.

I think what really caught him off guard is that I used Ganondorf in melee for our first match. No one expects a good Ganon player.

Ah, that'd throw some people for a loop real good. I couldn't really compete with more hard-core gamers so I don't have the same understanding, but I couldn't imagine kicking ass with Ganondorf (since it's usually speed that gets my ass handed to me )

ChaserTech In reply to doofusofdestiny [2011-06-03 02:09:05 +0000 UTC]

As a decent Ganon player, I realized that speed can throw you completely overboard. I played against this incredibly skilled Fox player could run circles around my Ganon like it's nothing. However, I can stick with him fairly well since Ganon can be quick if you know how to use him.

I do use other characters as well though, but I feel that my Ganon is my best character.

Smash Bros. is one of those games where nearly everyone says they are good at it. When it comes time to prove it, many fall short. There was a time where I did I few tournaments with this game. Those were some fun times.

rofl, Melee sucks tho. that's why they fixed all the gravity and bugs in brawl. no more move glitching, major speed unbalancing, cheapness with characters (except with a very few).

Brawl is much better then Melee as its more balanced with les bugs. besides, nowadays from what ive noticed, people don't even play Melee the way it was meant to be played and the makers noticed that which is why they fixed it in the next one. pfft... there ALL noobs.

ChaserTech In reply to DancingPope [2011-05-25 17:01:51 +0000 UTC]

Cool story bro, but I can see that you haven't played Melee and Brawl long enough to noticed how unbalanced Brawl is.

Sure they fixed the ability to wavedash in Brawl, including L-canceling, dash dancing, crouch canceling and all that jazz, but the characters became worse. There are tons of disjointed hitboxes, retarded things such Jab locks and Lazer locks, inescapable chaingrabs & inescapable grab releases, and tripping. Character matchups were decent in Melee but in Brawl, they took a turn for the worst. Metaknight became the most overused and broken character of all time, along with Snake, and Falco. In fact, I'll have to say that items balanced the game out, even with the addition of utilizing the Smash Ball. With Melee, everything was pretty much balanced out. As for the "speed issues" of the game, that is what made Melee fun and enjoyable to actually play. It was a fast paced game that left people on the edge of their seats, trying to figure out what their opponent will do next. And it made combos fun, unlike brawl which contains specific setups for actual combos.

Brawl even has its share of "move glitching" that people use constantly. An example of this would be DACUS, aka Dash Attack Cancel Up Smash, DACIT, aka Dash Attack Cancel Item Throw, Glide Toss, Scarring, Smash Directional Influence, B-Sticking, and etc. Most of the pros relied heavily on these techniques to become as good as they are today.

Which brings me to the overall subject of how Brawl and Melee stands up to each other. Personally, I prefer Melee over Brawl. I even prefer SSB on the N64 over Brawl. But Brawl was a decent game and I still play it when I have the chance to. Same goes with Melee. So, calling Melee inferior to Brawl is pretty much an exaggerated statement since it's mostly opinionated. Melee just takes more technical skill than Brawl and Brawl requires more mindgames than anything else.

Oh and by the way Aniki, who was a legend in SSBM, learned to play only using the normal moveset of Melee, with the exclusion of L-canceling. Hell, I could play without using glitches and still win against people. The glitches just makes Melee more enjoyable to play.

DancingPope In reply to ChaserTech [2011-05-25 21:39:42 +0000 UTC]

I'm quite aware that there are glitches in both. thing is SSBB forces people to play differently and doesn't allow them to play how the game wasn't meant to play.

Anyway, I'm not one for glitches. i hate all forms of glitches, bugs, hacks, cheats, yadda yadda. I've always played how the game was meant to be played and I've never lost in a fair match.

and i DO have all of the games and I've been playing for years. please don't say i haven't been playing long enough as i have been., it just crossed my mind.

I mainly prefer SSBB cause it takes away all the nonsense that SSBM contains. hopefully when/if another game is made, it will all be sorted out and there will be none of all that nonsense and everyone will play how the games are meant to be played. =/

ChaserTech In reply to DancingPope [2011-05-25 22:35:56 +0000 UTC]

Any glitch or bug that is hidden in a game will be exploited somehow. People often find these glitches, and when they do, use it to their advantage. Sure it may not be what the game developers designed the game to be but it's there, within the game.

Whether you want to utilize this glitches is all up to the user. No one is stopping them. However calling Melee inferior to Brawl is just stupid since both games are entirely different. Now, in a competitive sense, Melee dominates. In a casual, friendly environment, Brawl dominates. And even though Brawl took out the things that Melee had, it doesn't mean that it makes Brawl the victor. Brawl definitely has its flaws as well and a LOT of people play Brawl the way it wasn't intended to be played.

People are not going to be restricted by the rules within a game. Games like Devil May Cry 3 & 4, Super Mario Bros N64, Marvel vs Capcom 3, Blazblue, and even Minecraft contain glitches or "advanced techniques" that people will use in order to do different things. And with some games, glitches makes them better. Your acceptance of being involved in the partake of using the bugs that are in the game is entirely up to you and it is your fault if you cannot learn to accept it.

Yeah i know. tho one of the main reasons i believe brawl to be better is not because its different from meele or any other games. It's cause its one of the only games that has caused an event where tons of people have bought a game station JUST for that game. it was sooooo popular that people ctually bought wii's ONLY for Brawl.

It's noy technically better for the gameplay but for the popularity. hell, it even has online gameplay. thats something meele doesn't have :3

ChaserTech In reply to DancingPope [2011-05-27 07:11:20 +0000 UTC]

...As far as I'm concerned, it seems as if you are just piggy backing on every piece of info you know about Brawl and you aren't really making any solid statements. If Brawl was such a good game, then why people started altering it? The different versions that exists today are known as:

Brawl+ (Brawl Plus)
Brawl- (Brawl Minus)
Balanced Brawl
Project M

Look them up. I'm not joking around.

Brawl may have been popular but only because of it's prequel. When people heard about the new SSB game, they thought it was going to be the same as Melee, but it wasn't, which made some people upset.

As of now, I'm ending this discussion. It was pointless for me to even to respond back towards your comment. Either you're trying to troll or you're just really uninformative about how Brawl and Melee vs each other.

To further broaden your information about the debate between Brawl and Melee, I'd advise you to read this even though it's fairly old. [link]

well alright. I'm up for ending the debate. tho i tell you now, i assure you iwas in no way attempting to troll. Its just from what ive seen and experienced, brawl is better. And actually, to avoid this whole thing, you could have just said it was just my opinion. that would have allowed us to avoid all these responses. xD

Oh well, whats done is done.

I'm fairly above average when it comes to SSBM. I know most of the advanced techniques that exists in the game and I've mastered a good number of them. I haven't played anyone on my skill level till I hit college, which threw me off greatly. But I managed.

And thanks man. I'm glad to know that you like my comics.

Yeah, it's funny because after I hadn't played in awhile, I was a bit rusty but as soon as I picked up the controller again, the moves and controls all came rushing back to me as the game progressed. Both could be said for Melee and Brawl I suppose, haha.

Hey, you know I like anything you do, so no problem at all.

Yeah I used to be pretty competitive in brawl and melee. I would ask people if they played melee or brawl and we would play. Sadly people would get discouraged since I was pretty good. But all that stopped after I went to college and finally found some good players.
