what inspired the design?

You're always welcome, my friend - inspiration? Hmmm...what I wanted for this design was something that wasn't "overly-produced" as far as formulas and complexity, like I've been doing lately. I guess I wanted to try to get "back to my roots"...and something that echoed the feel of a classic work...

You're right; yes, it was a book by John Steinbeck, about a Depression-era farming family from Oklahoma that, despite incredible hardship, moved out to California to start a new life. It was a movie, too - both the book and movie are quite old (1930's era) - but it is a story of human spirit and endurance; I'm with that.
