I gritted my teeth and pounded the ground harder, dust puffing up as I sprinted toward the buses. "No," I muttered as they began to move. "No. NO! Wait!!"I stood in the gravel, sweaty, scared, and exhausted as my bus pulled out of the school parking lot without me.
Pff. And I thought my first day couldn't get worse.
Overwhelmed, I simply stood there. I wanted to scream. I wanted to cry. I wanted to get back on the plane to Virginia and go home.
I was debating whether I should go to the office to call Mom for a ride or risk getting caught using my cell phone on school grounds when a voice rang out close behind me.
"Hey. New girl!"
I turned to see a pair of kids who looked a heck of a lot happier than me. The wiry blonde trotted up, aqua eyes glowing in the sunlight. "I'm Finn. Nice to meet you."
"My name is Piper," came the soft rasp of the petite girl beside him, a wide smile glowing on her face. "Excuse my less-than-civilized friend."
Deflated, I managed to produce a weak smile. The welcoming comittee was a little late.

Actually, this is kind of a written-out version of the dream I had. That's exactly what they were wearing in it, and that's what inspired the picture.
