A very nice seascape!!!
I worked at ucla for several years, close to the administrators/cubicle-dwellers/bureaucrats,
and I can assure you the mindset is strange indeed, system-wide...
For years now,
there has been 1 FTE administrator for every single instructor/professor,
to give you an idea of where the money goes...that, and ~ 30 FTE diversity-administrators
on the staff of the vice-chancellor-of-diversity...on every UC campus... how progressive!!!!

Stylized foam looks great. Overall the whole piece looks great.
Is this place facing south? Excuse me for the stupid question, but assuming is facing west, that sunset looks like a little like a dawn.

Oh my gosh, this is beautiful.
Why can't the beaches on the Northeast Coast look like this?

Thank you! well the short answer is 'the jet stream + coriolus effect'... one can always hope for climate change...then again you guys have all the good pirate lore about 'schooners emerging from the fog'...

Hah! Starting next month I'll be a freshman at UCSD, and my Triton spirit shakes my fist at you calling the Geisel Library ugly! If it means anything, it's gorgeous on the inside, and I look forward to writing many essays right in front of the six story windows overlooking campus.
Again, I'm loving how your painting technique is evolving! The water at the horizon is only a few squiggly lines but that's all you need and it's very effective. Gorgeous!

Thank you! Congrats on your matriculation! I was looking for photos from the inside, and I had the hardest time finding anything...the search engine kept showing me the inside of the George Peabody library which I've so shamelessly and adoringly stolen from it's location in Baltimore. Writing essays while looking out over the ocean! Mmmm mmm mmm. sounds fantastic! except for the essays part. swap the essay for a cup of coffee and it's a deal.

Thank you! My definition of a "gorgeous" library interior is probably a bit skewed anyway. The books. So. Many. Books. Everywhere. Eight levels of them (more or less). The further you go up, the quieter you're supposed to be. Yes, the ocean views! My dining hall is literally called Oceanview Terrace. Is it worth the tuition? I'll get back to you on that lol!

Thank you! It's a great drive to San Diego...HW1 is worth the drive it it's open. What's the train that runs down the coast, the Coast Starlight Train? I've always wanted to take that myself.

Hey I love the library It was made in the height of the 'concrete bunker' era, but it's also just interesting as hell to look at imo. the housing on campus also has that look of an Eastern European hell hole, though nowhere near as glass-sided...
Locally though ... I don't think there's ever been any confusion that La Jolla means the jewel, though the "holes" they reference in that one translation may be the tide pools, as there are quite a few.

Concrete bunker indeed! So the whole campus has that theme in their architecture? Very interesting! Odd choice considering it's such a beautiful piece of land. Perhaps they wanted to balance the natural beauty with...I dunno, why? So the local meaning is 'jewel'? Someone came in the comments saying it was 'holes'. Ooh tide pools, I love tide pools, I shall have to paint these!

Not the WHOLE campus, lol it's still a mishmash of styles because construction in this county is like... literally non stop. The campus was built on an older military base, so all the eucalyptus trees are all in rows you can march through Some of the buildings are just absolutely bog-standard 'university bungalo' which was extremely common here for decades. A lot of the town is military, and a lot of the housing was meant to be temporary, and has lasted many, many more decades than intended. Many of the campus buildings (at least when my ex and all our friends were going there) have that traditional 'cheap ass stucco' exterior, but I'm sure that a few of those have been torn down and rebuilt since that time (... fairly, aside from medical things recently, it's been since the mid-90s since I've wandered the campus).
I've lived in San Diego all my life, never heard 'holes'.
it's very much a beautiful beach, though I'm much more fond of the beaches north of PB. We have like... what, 70 miles worth of beaches? They're all different from one another and certainly some are much nicer than others. LJ is probably the most popular for tourists, though the surroundings are quite expensive and parking is... well, pffft nonexistent. PB has a unique and much more local-fun feel to it. Ocean Beach (just south of PB) has this... distinct... smell? And from there I think it kinda just gets ick until you pass Downtown and the harbor. So many features on the coastline
Definitely if you haven't come here to wander them, you should Particularly in the 'off season' - you can still get sunburnt in February and there aren't nearly as many tourists to get in the way of painting

Thank you! I love painting with pastel colors! it feels almost self indulgent sometimes, but every once in a while, I just feel like breaking out the pink!
