Description

This is Scott’s Valley California , Key Features:

Henry Cowell Redwoods (the painting is from this park) -

John Scot Scott’s bar gold discovery, they named the town after him - *citation needed but there’s another Scott’s Bar up near Klamath

Alfred Hitchcock - lived here

Roaring Camp - take the steam train, I highly recommend.  always wanted to do the beach train down to Santa Cruz too. Beautiful place, it’s ‘roaring’ because there was so much partying going on.

Tunnels to Los Gatos - These were closed off in 1940 due to ground subsidence via earthquakes and flooding, a horrible place to put a railroad tunnel generally. They dynamited them shut. Although one tunnel is allegedly an ‘atomic vault’ that could withstand a direct atomic bomb, and Disney kept his animation cells there? Wonder what’s in it today?

Tons of Conference Centers - for a small town, there seem to be an ungodly amount of these things dotted across the landscape, just waiting for some corporate teambuilding motivational exercise to resign workers to the 18” hen cages they spend their days in.   Oh and of course weddings .  Lots of weddings going on in Scotts Valley.

Funerals this week in Chateau Grief.

What a great place to sit and contemplate.  You have captured Scott's Valley in all its glory!  One day I shall go there!

My dad and I used to hike there all the time. The abandoned limestone kilns and the little cement fish pond are magical. Once I even saw a bat pass by in broad daylight. Anyhow, the color palette strikes an interesting balance of warm and cool, much like the park itself, and the heavy shadows among the underbrush create an air of mystery and isolation. It's very much a "scene" that invites the eye to speculate beyond its borders.

Very cool!  What a fun thing to do with your dad!  And thanks for the nice analysis, it's always a balance trying to capture that dappled forest light & shadow, yet nothing is quite as magical as the real thing. one of my favorite things to paint!

California is truly a magical place isn't it? At this rate, they'll make you director of tourism!

I'll take it! haha director of tourism.  I'd probably go around quoting Hotel California ominously.  "Relax, we're programmed to receive, check out any time you want but you can never leave"

This is so beautiful! I love the colour composition and the style which makes it look like a painting but at the same time like if its real. It's such a beautiful scenery! I love the reflection of the trees in the pond, you did this very good. Keep it up and thank you for this great artwork

Absolutely stunning image, glass like reflecting pond and dramatic lighting make it quite an inviting scene. While my eye is drawn immediately to the central perspective focal point there is a lot of dramatic detail to keep eye moving.

Thank you!  I got a hardware upgrade this week and was happy to be able to work on this one on a much bigger screen.  I wonder if it'll help me unify my compositions better, and I hope so!

Curto muito seus cenários, a escolha de cores neles que passam a sensação de um ambiente mais profundo, como se realmente tivesse algo além das árvores ou dos lados.
 Great job ¬(°u°¬)

You always make the best paintings of these scenes! and I totally wish I could buy one as a print, but you don't sell them, and I don't have the money for anything

aw thank you!  I used to put things up as prints to sell but finances are tight all across DA these days and it just wasn't worth the effort to manage the print store. It means a lot to me to hear though thank you!
