I started that tutorial since i always was fascinated by how old photos look like. I think they are so much dark and goth, aren't they? Unfortunately i hadn't much time to do a tutorial for beginners, so this one is for advanced users (where advanced means you have to know to work with layers, erasers, colorization, etc.)
The goal is to create an image and to give it a daguerreotype (or daguerrotipe) final look, in short it's the old photo style
I started from a blurred image, not so quality, for a photographer it should be just trash, but for a photomanipulator it's the beginning of an adventure...and there we go

For the branches background you can use a fractal program, it will be fine to make your own wood

The tutorial is good for many programs like Photoshop CS2, CorelDraw12 and 13, PaintShop Pro, Photopaint.
