<--PREVIOUS - NEXT-->My third entry for the #ShardxNicoleSummerContest (Man, I'm really going all out for this!
)I debated about using Phage as a villain to this story. But since this is intended to be a short comic, I didn't think it was a good idea to introduce a new bad guy of my own making. Besides, I really like Phage, not only her look but her character as well. So why not use her here?

I wondered if Phage and Nicole weren't some how connected, like if Phage wasn't a lingering presence of the girl that Nicole was based off of.

It's nice that they were able to create a more comfortable environment for this little chat. I also find it cute that Nicole is so coy in the third panel, really giving the feeling that she likes Shard even when she has such a vague idea of who he is. I'm under the impression here that Shard is still mentally working through his current existence, so his insecurity and slight depression are understandable, though I get the feeling we're in store for his typical snark and bellicose attitude once Phage makes her move.
One discrepancy that didn't appear to have any room to clear up is what Sally did after the first page. Did she leave? Is she listening to all this quietly? Does she even know what's going on? Oh, and Nicole's first line has a grammatical mistake: her memories have faded.

If this was a full comic, I would've been able to show what Sally and the gang were up to. After part 2, Nicole explained things to the FF but Shard can't leave the digital world. So she went back to learn more about him and see if she can help. This was part of my outline at first, but I had to cut it out.
And thanks for pointing out the grammar mistake! When I get back home tonight I'll be sure to correct it!

i just think it would help since the sonic wiki doesn't say anything about that. (through to be fair, Nicole did seem to act different then the version from the old world.)

Sad but true, the writers themselves and even characters in comic (such as Eggman himself) stated that after the whole initial memories wers recovered, they would simply fade away to make room for new continuity. (For however that that lasted)

And it might happen again when IDW takes over next year. I've heard many extra characters are being dropped; Shard among them.

Oh I've been under no delusions that shard and the rest from the original archiverse are as dead as the first reboot made them. At this point the best we can hope for if IDW will use the characters from post genesis since all them were under sega ownership.
