Since the day of my conception, there has been something different about me, according to my mother that is. In my opinion, however, I'm just another everyday ordinary kind of girl. I think my mother wants to find something extraordinary in me simply because she is an extraordinary woman (she's been climbing mountains since the ripe old age of 6). How my father got a hold of her and made her settle down, I will never know. He is the single most timid entity in existence and I will never know how the two of them made any kind of connection.

I wrote that in my journal yesterday. Today, however I would like to go on record and say that I was horribly terribly wrong and want to take back everything I said. The events that have unfolded so far today have proven that my life will not be normal from this day on. Let me explain. This morning, on my way to my first class, I was intercepted by a boy with the most beautiful brown skin and sparkling chocolate eyes. He introduced himself as Marvin (HAHAHAHAHA…sorry girls I had to do it) and I politely told him that my name was Sarah. Since he was a complete stranger to me, however, I tried to go about my way get to class without being rude. I swerved around him, but he stepped into my path once again and insisted that I talk with him. Panic started to rise in me, but I made myself remain calm and expressed to him that I would be late for my class if he did not let me through. Again, he refused to let me pass him. He insisted that he was simply protecting me.

I turned around, deciding that getting to class was much less important than getting away from a creeper, but just as I did, I heard an explosion and looked to find a gaping hole in the sidewalk. I looked again at Marvin and he looked at me and smiled. He explained to me that, had I continued on that path, I would have fallen into that hole and died upon impact at the bottom. I shakily walked to the hole, looked down, and realized that I could not see where the hole ended. I sat down, hard, and Marvin came over to console me. There is something quite scary about knowing that you were so close to death.

"And now, Sarah, we are going down that hole," he told me with a gleaming smile.

"Come again," I said, raising my eyebrow.

"If you look around, you'll notice that no one is on campus. Go ahead, try to find someone."

"I think I'll just trust you on this one."

"Good," Marvin said, smiling bigger, "that saves us some time. You see, everyone has been moved to a different dimension. The very fabric of this one is falling apart and it is up to you and me to go down into that hole and figure out what's tearing it apart. That is why I saved you. Now I have – why are you giving me that look?"

"Because what you're telling me is insane and impossible."

"Only because you refuse to let your mind expand to encompass the idea."

"Or maybe because it's not possible."

"Or maybe because your mind is too structured and you refuse to let it simply flow. Change your mind from rock to water Sarah. You won't regret it."

"I don't even know how to do that. I don't even know what you are talking about."

"Then why don't you just trust and follow me?"

"Because I don't know you! You expect me to follow you into some hole that just appeared in the ground and have faith that everything is going to be okay?"

"I did just save your life. Even if you can't trust me, you can do me a favor."

"Why don't you just give me a little time to trust you and grasp all this? A day, maybe two?"

"Listen very carefully Sarah." Marvin was very quiet for about three minutes. "Do you hear that faint sound?" Sarah nodded. "That is the sound of this dimension slowly dripping down the cosmic drain. We don't have time to wait."

"Okay okay! So, we're going down that hole? How do you suppose we get to the bottom?"

"I have some climbing gear."

"I have never climbed down a hole."

"I have, many many times. I will be your guide."

"I'm clumsy, I may lose my footing."

"Hence the rope. You are stalling, my dear Sarah, and I would love to give you all the time in the world to grasp all of this, but we really must go. The fate of this world depends on you."

"You mean us?"

"No, whether I am here or not makes no difference, they could have sent anyone to escort you, but your presence is quite necessary. No pressure," he winked.

"So…without me, this dimension is screwed?"

"That is quite right. Now can we please get this proverbial show on the metaphorical road?"

"I guess, but I still don't like it."

"Just think, you'll be saving not just a world, but a whole dimension," he said as he set up the climbing equipment.

"Yeah, I guess that's nice."

"You're going down first," he said after he had after everything was set up.

"This sucks," I murmured and went over the side with a grumble.

We're at the bottom now, and I'm very tired. I climbed to the bottom and Marvin was down here waiting on me, I don't know how he did it since he was holding my rope, but there he was all smiles. The hole was quite deep and took me six hours to scale down. I am clean as a whistle; there was no dirt or grime on the way down, just hard nothingness and complete blackness. Marvin gave me a thirty minute break before we trek forward, but now he's calling for me and I assume that means we're about to move forward in our journey.

Until next time,
Sarah
