A belated happy Valentine's Day. Canonically, this takes place three years ago in my "Of Ghosts and Twins" series, which is why I have two different years in the tags.

Joey Wren had a lot of trouble setting up the perfect Valentine's day to ask Halia Akamai, his college classmate and a tag-along from Hawaii, to become his official girlfriend. He tried to find a blank valentine's card with dolphins (her favorite animal) on it, but that design was sold out so he hade to go with sea otters instead, and even then, the card blew straight into a tree shortly after he wrote his ridiculously long proposal on it. He also planned to make it so he and Halia would be the first ones to the annual buffet the bed and breakfast they were staying at was throwing, but his post-living twin sister, Jenny Wren, made a mess of the kitchen with edible glitter delaying the event, forcing Joey to get breakfast pizza from a nearby gas station as Plan B. Feeling guilty but still mischievous, Jenny got the card down from the tree in her brother's absence and gave it to Halia as soon as she woke up. Being a shaman, Halia can sense Jenny was up to something as she didn't touch the matcha tea offered to her even though the whole "family" knew the little ghost girl never misses out on trying something new... though she does forget to eat and drink when she's caught in a project. Deciding not to push the issue, Halia reads the card and was touched by it enough to comfort Joey for his less than perfect Valentine's plans, even going so far as to share his pun. Joey is stunned that Halia got the card after what happened to it, and Jenny snaps a picture of the couple before sampling her tea offering.
