You've got a good start on perspective and color. I think the biggest thing you really need to work on at this point is anatomy. The arm on the left side of the piece is a good example of what I mean here... the bones & muscles in a real arm have subtle curves, whereas here I'm just seeing a series of generic bulges that makes the arm look more like a snow-man. If you can learn the shape & function of those bones & muscles, I think you'll get a much more realistic looking anatomy in your illustrations.

Hey I wish to apologize. I wasn't mad, I was just trying to explain myself why he looks like that. Besides I was trying to make his arm be in that back and bending a bit. I do appreciate the critique honest.

No worries. Realism isn't so hard, it just takes practice. One thing that helps a lot is to take a reference photo and turn it upside down and draw it that way. Your brain stops trying to over-analyze the content and lets you see the shapes for what they are instead of what your brain assumes they are. Like an eye for example, the brain tends to think of the eye as being shaped like an almond, but it's more nuanced than that. If you turn the reference photo upside down, then your brain will see the actual curves in the eye and not just go "oh, an eye is almond shaped".

I see. I usually don't shape my eyes as almonds. I wish my art teacher taught me that about turning the photo upside down. He just gives us a model and tells us to draw it. The thing is that not only am I bad in realism, I don't like realism. I try to give my characters more action and expression. That's why I usually give my characters big eyes. Also, I don't like me characters stiff or closed in. I want to give them life and energy. That's why I love Jack Kirby drawings. They're simple, yet very powerful. BTW look up Jack Kirby and his art, he's amazing. Also please look at my Spider Man drawing. I think you'll like it.

The mention of almond-shaped eyes was an example -- hopefully you understand the concept and aren't just fixated on the fact that I said something about almond-shaped eyes.

I've seen tons of Kirby's work... I don't much care for it personally, but I understand why he's one of the comic industry's legends. But you also have to understand that Jack Kirby understood realism and started his illustrations with a firm understanding of anatomy. Even if you look at Kirby's work, you don't see snow-man arms, you see quite detailed anatomy. Here's a good example: [link] If you look at the arms, you can obviously tell that he's studied anatomy. He knows what muscles there are in the forearm as opposed to the upper arm and he knows how they flex and fold into one another.

You seem to be of the mistaken impression that realism and dynamic action are mutually exclusive. That's just not true. Well known artists in the comic industry frequently merge the two quite successfully in the same piece.

I see. I also like the picture. I looked at the arms, and I can see why the arm in my picture doesn't work. The forearm on my picture is too round and not straight. It should be more rectangle, have a small bit of roundness for the muscle. At least that's what I think. Yeah, I really need to study on that. I need to read my "How to Draw the Marvel Way" more often. But yeah, keep your style, but make it realistic. I bet even Craig McCracken had to learn that (BTW his birthday is coming up. Wish him a happy birthday). Can you please look at my Spider Man picture? Hopefully I got the arms right since he's more athletic than overly muscular.

To tell you the truth, I'm a cartoonist. And I've based this drawing on the works of Jack Kirby. I can't draw realism for the life of me.
