Description This is the metal corset that I just finished... about 75 hours in total. It is fitted to me but it is adjustable for the most part. It is made entirely out of 18ga. brass and 20 ga. copper. Everything was hand textured and formed. The rivets were all hand made as well (all 135+). and the front panel is acid etched. It is lined with wool felt in an effort to make it more comfortable, which was probably completely futile, so it will mostly be a sculptural piece.

I hope to get some better photos of it in the near future on a body because it looks much better when it is worn.

Wow that is so cool. So coolness for doing 135 rivets. I don't even think I've done that many in all my metalsmithing life. Awesome piece ^_^

I guess it's like armour. No matter if you line it with fur, it's still going to pinch

Cool. Any pics from the side?????I have been making corsets out of stainless, plastic and just started in copper.

Copper is way easier to work than stainless, but as you say, its a shocker for conducting the heat.

Problem with metal corsets... they've got no give!
My gf was wearing one at a club once and she fainted.

The no give factor is actually why I made it lace up in 3 places. It gives it just a touch more breathing room!

Good god...that has to be REALLY uncomfortable to wear for extended amounts of time (X_X)
**And I don't say that about a bodice much...I work at a Renaissance Faire every summer...**

Very beautiful workmanship (^^)<3

Awesome stuff! If you don't mind my asking, did you use anything for reference? Or was it more along the lines of trial an error?

Overall an amazing piece. And if i had a hat i would be taking it off to you!

Chebanse In reply to Uncleshifty [2007-03-22 16:29:52 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I didn't have any refference to work from. Most of it was trial and error. I built a model in craft foam so that I had a pattern to work from and I fitted that to a makeshift dress dummy that I made of my torso. The main part of the corset (brass) followed my pattern very closely and worked with my original plan but a lot of the decorative elements and the copper pieces just kind of happened as I worked on the piece.

Chebanse In reply to laurearien [2007-03-16 23:11:42 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! It's actually lined with wool felt so the metal isn't cold when you put it on... It's really too warm to wear for very long.

That's really beautiful. It's a very elegant design, ne. I love the contrast between the soft, flowing ribbons and the rigid metal. It's one of the most creative corsets I've seen.

mhh it isn't very comfortable huh?
you can't bend your body in that metal trap.
i know corsets don't let you move anyway^^ but maybe you could make it composite...
