Description
Meet Cloud Dancer, father of Pyro and Hugo and grandfather of Spike in my cheerfulverse. He makes his first appearance in my mlp story 'Call of the Dragon Spirit'.

Long before Spike was even born, Cloud Dancer was a young dragon that would eventually meet Princess Celestia and Luna when they were fillies and the three of them became good friends immediately. They kept in touch with each other over the years. Years passed and Cloud Dancer grew up, married a female dragon, and had two dragon sons that they named Pyro and Hugo. When Pyro inherited the powers of the Dragon Spirit, Cloud Dancer, who also had the same power as well, helped him learn to control that power just as his father taught him. When Cloud Dancer's sons were grown up, Hugo married Brenna and had Smokey while Pyro married Idris. When Pyro told his brother and father that he and his wife had an egg, Cloud Dancer was happy because he was going to be an grandfather. However, during the dragon migration, the Scale Collectors, led by the Scale Huntress, ambushed them and began capturing dragons. As he fought them to save his wife and son, Hugo's eye was slashed by the Scale General, Iron Talon. He was able to save his wife and son, but was unable to save his brother and his sister-in-law because they were taken by the Scale Collectors, along with others dragons. During the fight, Idris dropped her egg and it fell down.

However, unknown to the dragons and Scale Collectors, Cloud Dancer was able to rescue his unhatched grandchild and avoid being captured by the Scale Collectors. As he flew away with the egg, Cloud Dancer knew that it wouldn't be safe for him to raise the egg by himself. So, he flew to Canterlot and told his old friend, Princess Celestia, what had happened. He gave her the egg, entrusting her to find a suitable pony to raise the baby dragon. He then flew off to a solitary place in the Dragon Lands where he spent the past few years as a hidden hermit and waited until the day when the egg would hatch.

After Twilight hatched Spike with her magic, Princess Celestia sent a message to Cloud Dancer, telling him that his grandson was born. Cloud Dancer was delighted that he had a grandson that was named after his ancestor, the Great Dragon. He wrote back to Celestia saying that he wants his grandson to stay with Twilight Sparkle while he secretly watched him. He had a feeling that Spike would one day play an important role and wanted him to experience it in his own way like he did when he became friends with ponies.

Many years later, when the dragons learn that the Scale Collectors plan to capture them all, Spike was going through the molt and was a target by the Dragon Defenders, which he and the ponies thought were the Scale Collectors. After a second encounter with the Dragon Defenders and getting separated by their new dragon friends, Spike was taken away by a roc, as the CMC, Grubber, Sprout, and Branch try to save him. As they were falling down, they were rescued by Cloud Dancer. Spike was surprised at how the old dragon knew his name. While he didn't reveal that he and Spike were related, Cloud Dancer explained that he knew many things about Spike. He then explained that the reason why Spike's red scales are now green is because he has the power of the Dragon Spirit and that his ancestors were calling to him. He offered to help Spike learn how to control his power and to communicate with his ancestors so he can connect with them.

As Spike was learning to control his power, Cloud Dancer communicated with his first ancestor, Spike the Great Dragon, who told him that Spike must see Orenda, leader of the Dragon Defenders, so she could help the young dragon reach out to him.

During the fight against the Scale Huntress, Spike's molt ended and he gained a new power; the power to create stuff made from his fire that he used by making wings for him to fly. From his spot, Cloud Dancer sensed that his grandson has finally unlocked the full potential of his power before he wrote a letter and sent to Celestia and Luna.

After Spike and the others defeat the Scale Huntress and her group, Pyro, Idris, and the captured dragons were free. They approached Spike because they saw that Spike had the power of the Dragon Spirit just like Pyro did and it meant that Spike was their son. Spike is reunited with his real parents and Hugo is reunited with his brother.

Soon, Cloud Dancer and the two sisters arrive to the group. The old dragon then reveals to Spike that he was his grandfather and explains why he did it.

Cloud Dancer is a wise dragon that respects every creature in Equestria. He listens to the words of his ancestors in his mind and does not question their reasons.
