King Elkwood is the ruler of the perytons in Thickwood Forest and cares about all of his subjects. When their home was attacked by a carnivorous plant beast, King Elkwood used a magical rose to grow a giant tree for the perytons to live and so that the monster couldn't get them.

When Twilight and her friends come to the home of the perytons, they defeated the monster that was living in the ruins of the city while Rooty watched the whole thing. He introduced them to his family, much to Redthorn's dislike. After helping save Evergreen, the perytons and the ponies of Evergreen restore their ties with each other.
