"Watching you turn away was one of the most difficult things I've ever done. For weeks your absence made it hard to breathe. I was so tempted to break into that facility to see you, just for a little while. I simply wanted to be sure you were alright. But, I couldn't, Shepard. It wasn't safe for either of us.
"So, I did what I do best, and suppressed thoughts of us.

"Except, it was surprising how difficult that was. It never drove me from my focus and as time ticked by it got better, but some days, being away from you was hard. And when I watched those reports pile in from Earth I suspected the worst.

Yet, here you are- back in my arms, if only for so long before you have to run out and save the galaxy again. Truthfully- if I'm being honest with myself- I don't want you to go. But, I'll never tell you that. We both have our duties.

"I know you like the back of my hand, and here and now I can see what this war is doing to you. I can feel the stress in your shoulders, the uneven beat of your heart as your mind processes horrors even in slumber, I can see the heavy circles beneath your eyes that sleep should take away, and it concerns me. It seems neither of us have been receiving adequate rest.

"But, it's the least I can offer you.

"So I'll be here through the night to watch you sleep. To make sure those nightmares elude you for just a few hours more. Your chance to catch a breath is much more valuable than my own. We can't have you pulling off those ridiculous heroics only half-conscious now, can we? You might hurt yourself, and I'd really rather not have to scrounge up four billion credits again to fix you. Besides, in this economy the price has undoubtably skyrocketed.

"You'd be worth it, though. Don't get me wrong, Shepard, but I'm sure the Illusive Man would have a few grievances. And, I'm not about to have you let down the galaxy because you're sleep deficient. I know that's a lot to put on you, and I know it's selfish, but we're all counting on you. A lot of people have full lives left, and I want to be able to keep coming home to you and my sister. I'm going to make sure you're both safe. So, let me help you in one of the few ways I can for now, and watch you sleep."
