Erika's changed a lot over the years, but her origin remains the same. 🌟
When she's fifteen years old, the Enterprise away team finds her alone on an alien planet. Her parents were essentially disaster-response doctors who had come to help the people of this planet deal with an epidemic. However, both of her parents were infected and killed, and if the Enterprise had shown up even a few days later, Erika wouldn't have survived either.
By the time they find her, she's feverish and in a delirium to the point that she can hardly stand. It's Chekov that carries her onto the ship and into sickbay, and she spends the next three days in and out of consciousness until she starts to recover. And he stays by her side whenever he's free, so she won't be alone when she wakes up. 💛💙
And when she does recover, all she remembers from those three days is that there was someone who never left her side. Someone with the most beautiful green eyes... ✨

It's not quite Love At First Sight- she is pretty, albeit in an unconventional way, but right then she's a gawky teenager who also looks like she's been dead for a week. But I think even then, he knew there was something special about her.
