I was framed! cried the Pacific, pointing an accusing finger of foaming white water back toward the dark overhang of the cave.

Quite possibly the most difficult location I've ever had to find for a picture. We hiked two hours down the Na Pali Coast of Kauai (an area completely unreachable by cars or planes due to the sheer cliffs) and finally stumbled out onto a gorgeous beach rimmed by jagged black cliffs. After a bit of exploring, and cooling off in the surf, I grabbed my camera and ventured out over an area of lava rock extending into the ocean, only to find a massive arching cave that perfectly framed the deep blue waters.

However, as I tried to walk deeper into the cave, I found myself the object of attack by several large sea birds. Apparently I was near their nest or something trivial like that. I'm a wimp. I hate birds. I threw myself down on the sand, shrieking without a taste of dignity.

It was terrifying.

Eventually, after a few minutes of recovery, my friends and I found a 1 foot tall tunnel into the rock, which we were told eventually led back into the very same cave I'd found earlier. After army crawling into the dark, damp tunnel, I finally came upon this gorgeous view.

It was perfect.
