Description A week or so ago I attended a workshop at the Concept Design Academy in Pasadena, CA. Khang Le was there doing a demo on environment painting. Now, in a way i already knew most of the things he was trying to teach and point out. But just seeing him do a demo in his style and to see his work method was a real treat. He works just like Craig Mullins which is amazing. So, if it does remind you of some Khang elements thats probably why. I did this painting during the Thanksgiving weekend and randomly working on it here and there constantly having it up on my monitor.

It's not quite at a finished level, but I'd say its a real tight thought out speed paint. At this point the weekends over and I don't think i want to work on it anymore. I think the real exercise in this one was just to get better at atmospheric perspective and composition.

I've been interested in environment paint for a long while, but all I have to show for it is just my own experimentation without any theory behind it. Can you shed some light on learning how to go about it?

Looks pretty good.

Did you work front to back or back to front or some other direction?

I usually work both at the same time. pushing things into the back and pulling other things to the front. I tried to do that whole do the background first when i was in school but i never really understood it. But that was when i was doing traditional acrylics. Before digital was ever an option.

Most of the time I work from background to foreground.
Might go the other way if the foreground is not quite the same as the background. Not really tried moving back and forward from background and foreground.
