This was a PhotoShop assignment for my Digital Imaging Class. The task was to create an image using the painting tools, gradients, and layers. This was the first attempt I have ever done in PhotoShop using the paint brushes specifically.

To practice my paint brushing and blur skills I chose to trace over the original Art Deco portrait of a woman after I scanned it in.

I first started on the Hair. I began painting the first hair geometric follicle, including its gradients. I then created a selection using the pen tool, and transformed the hair geometric follicles to other parts of the hair. I then used the paint brush to blend the hair geometric shapes onto the woman’s head.

Next I started off with the face, painting in the eyes, the lips, and the cheeks using varieties of brushes, border selections, blurs and sharpens.

After this task I was ready to render in the background which I used mainly brushes and blurs.

The hand was done similar to the face, I used the border selection tool create the background and the shift + click to create straight lines between the fingers. I began building the paint brushes up more and more until I got a hand as you see depicted in the image. For the ring I used the gradient tool, pen tool, and shape tool. And I blended the colors in.

Finally with the coat I first created an overall outline using the pen tool, and then placed a straight out color tone. After rendering the coat feathers into a similar 3d aspect I then created my own brush to develop the hairs.

Even after a month of completing this assignment I still kept working and working on it, until I was satisfied overall with the piece and ready for it to be shared on my Deviant Art Account.

Enjoy.
