I respect most couples of the Sonic 'verse but not all, respect my opinion and I'll respect yours.)

Ugh, this picture was such a pain to draw u.u; well as you can see, I'm somewhat influenced by CLAMP. I'm starting to like this couple, even though love is not involved, however manipulative ecstacy comes to mind when it comes to these two.
Well, if you've heard or played Sonic Next-Gen, you should know Mephiles is a dark being that wants to release the Iblis Trigger for his own gains in conquering the world. But in order to do that he needed a tempoarary vessel so he takes over Shadow's...err...shadow.
At one point during one of the games cutscenes Mephiles tries to tempt Shadow into joining him by showing his future, turns out people feared Shadow so much they sealed him in a cage (please don't ask why the cage bars is pink-ish, I don't know either) but to Mephiles' suprise Shadow rejects it claiming 'I choose my own destiny.'
The picture I drew is based on that statement. Now I don't know if Mr. Gerald ever told him he choose his path but odds are Maria did it, that's why she's there instead of Gerald.

Another note: Slight Spoilers in here, and I only see Shadow and Maria's relationship as a sibling love, nothing more. u.u;
