Description Death is a part of life. I didn't kill this animal. It was already dead when I bought it. Please no harsh comments.
I am a nice person and accept other opinions. If you also do, but don't like fur, then please just don't look at this image and rather go looking at things you like. Thank you (:

Remember this pelt ? Yeah, that's what I made out of it at the beginning of 2016.

This is Faun. He is a sunbleached red fox/golden island fox mix. I used the pelt from an old stole and the head and feet were scraps. Faun's head form is made out of foam, which was a nice thought at the beginning but didn't work out quite well in the end because of the foam's squeeshyness. There is a wire armature inside his body which lets him stand on all 4 feet – he is a bit waggly then but he stands.

The base wasn't easy to work with and I didn't have the right materials. Firstly, the pelt just ripped everywhere. The leather was so bad that I needed so glue fabric on the inside to make it hold. Well, this was part of the reason I took so long with the armature – the pelt was very heavy. His face also took several days and multiple overworks to finish. I am not 100% satisfied with him, but I couldn't do it any better without making the face rip more apart than it already did (there were loads of holes I had to sew). The only thing that wasn't a problem were the ears. It was really easy to split them and let them dry correctly on a wire form (I cut them off at that time and attached them later to make it less hard). Next, the mask I used had some bare spots. I was okay with that because I thought "maybe he just has some scratches in the face, I can do that" – Yeah, that's where his "wounds" come from.

Making his armature was really tricky because of the heavy pelt and his size (I usually do armatures for small art dolls, not for lifesized beasts). It took several weeks for me to finally finish the armature and making standing possible for him. I didn't really work well on the feet though – there's clay visible on the underside. And then there was another problem with the feet: I only had 3 golden island fox paws left back then! I had to get another one – now I have one, but I'm not really eager to finish him. It's a kinda love-hate-relationship. He is ugly, I hate him. He is kinda cute, I love him. But he is a mess and I don't feel like finishing him. So, yeah, he basically has 4 paws now but only 3 of them are surrounded with fur (meant the fourth one is still only the armature). The leg is not visible on the photo, it's the front leg that is pushed to the side. His unfinished paw is also the reason why I never uploaded any photos of him.

I personally think faun is beautifull!
Better than how MY first mount will look! Still working on him xD

You did a good job with that armature too, i'd never be able to do that in the next one or two years, i'll need alot of practice xD

Thanks ^^
I still don't really like him. Yesterday I actually was about to work on him. I've sewn a big hole, but didn't so much more – he still only has 3 paws because I don't know how to get bones out of toes for reshaping lol.

Well, he's super wobbly. I definitely need to use a thicker wire next time.

I can actually only hope my soft mount will look as good as yours though, i've never had any taxidermy work before

Question, the fox pelt im using misses a piece, can i replace it with a piece of similar-coloured rabbit pelt, or will it look very odd?
I have no other solution for the missing piece so i hope it would work-

This is awsome I would love to see this done with stoles more often. It does them justice

Thanks ^^
Well, I think stoles can look good too and they surely sometimes have really cute faces. However, some look better if they're pelts again – or even get mounted up like this lil pal.

You should post him to the Misfit-Taxidermist group! He'll fit right in since he is 1) adorable! and 2)made in an unconventional manner

I sometimes see him as cute, but sometimes he also just feels ugly to me.

Ha, I guess he's kinda uglycute, then. :3 (Sorry, long time lurker of taxidermy, trying to be more of a poster.)

Are you going to ever show some more photos of his body and other sides of his face? He actually looks pretty good considering all you had to do with him and the materials you had. :3 I like his derpy look. He's kinda just yelling out, "I'm ugly, but I'm cute, loooovvvee mmmeeeee!!!"

I'm looking for another soft mount and may or may not be interested depending on what the rest of him looks like and the price. :3 The more I look at him, the more I "D'aw!"

Yeah, that describes him perfectly xD

I still have a few photos of him to edit and upload, but I am not sure when I'll do this. Thank you! That means a lot to me :3
I worked on him a lot and still think he's only "meh", but, yeah – no one makes a perfect mount on the first try, right? xD

Well, as I wrote in the description, he is not finished yet and his left front paw is a mess at the moment. xD Also, he is not the softest, at least on his body fluff where I used the fox stole and not the golden island scraps. His feet and head are really soft and nice to pet, though.

I am also not completely sure if I sell him, but since half a year he's just sitting somewhere and I didn't even work on his damn paw, so I think he would have it better elsewhere.

I'm not sure how old this post is, but I think he's adorable! Soft mounts don't have to be perfect to be cute and cuddle-able.

I just uploaded him. I never uploaded him before because of his unfinished leg. ^^
True, he has his cute sides ^^
Yeah, I also thought "He's my first, he won't be perfect". But I still wish that I could've made him more realistic... At least the armature worked out kinda nice.

I think the important thing is that we learn from each mount we make.

Indeed. Note to myself: Never use a foam form again. Might be a good idea at first but just too squishy in the end xD

Did you use that green floral foam? The taxidermy head forms are made out of a much nicer rigid polyurethane foam and are really nice to work with. No comparison!
