Oh, really? Cool! I just made my sister a clay set of three, actually! I'm not that good at modeling with clay, but it's fun. I would like to see yours!

The blue guy is my favorite! It occurs to me I fucked up the feet, though. That's what I get for not using any references and going from memory. According to DA, though, I might as well have just traced a screenshot. They think we fanartists are on the same level as tracing. They tell us we have no originality. It is sad that this is the official stance from the administration team here.
Meanwhile, they spout a bunch of bullshit about allowing traces to "encourage" artists and help with "creativity" (please). Who claims to want to promote creativity and encourage artists when they tell fanartists "don't bother, it's all already been done before"?
The quote: "For one, the very nature of a fan art gallery indicates that you will not find very much originality; all submissions will be directly based upon someone elseβs artwork and concepts. One is also more likely to find a younger, less experienced artist submitting to these types of galleries." (from [link] )
Now, after the community bitching about them allowing direct traces for a year, they release the same rules again, worded slightly differently. They're still allowing traces, but they have to be secluded to the fanart gallery alone, because obviously you're not going to find any kind of originality in the fanart gallery ANYWAY, amirite?
So, so lame, buddy. Go reject this article, if you don't think tracing should be allowed (at least anywhere outside of scraps):

I know! And on top of that, they are saying it is okay for people to directly trace, say, pages of Batman comics! Explain that! How is that okay?
You know what really doesn't make any sense is they don't allow edits or recolors of exisiting work. But they allow full-blown traces. So, it's like, "Hey, folks, don't fuck with someone else's work unless you rip it off 100%, okay?"
The good news is, the copyright office was recently contacted and there are paragraphs on their website found to say what they are allowing is ILLEGAL!
I think they will now have to revise their policy on tracing, or end up getting sued. There is hope, yet!

Lol. I think I watched it with my little sister and my mom... But I don't truly recall...
Though we did have a similar situation with watching "27 Dresses". Have you seen that one? (Loved it! Watching it now!) I told my sister as we were watching it, "if you pull any of that stuff on me, I will hurt you." XD

It was my first Miyazaki movie, too!
And yes, I know you see no problem with the rule because we've been down this road before, and our opinions on the matter just differ. However, (and I'm pleased to see this) the majority hate it. And the way they are disrespecting fanartists is also a big problem. Someone here asked the copyright office of the USA if it were okay, and they replied and said it would only be okay with permission. The fact that DA is breaking a law by allowing it isn't so overlookable.
The derogatory quote about fanart actually comes from the previous article a year ago. And as everyone is saying, why does it need to be put in the fanart gallery? Why not scraps? If it's TRULY being used as a learning tool, it belongs in scraps. And there is no written rule that states every single thing you doodle or draw HAS to be uploaded to dA. If they just enforced that they went in scraps, I think it would calm... oh, 98% of the angry population down. That, and to stop insinuating there is absolutely no originality in the fanart gallery. That gets under my skin a lot.

It's quite cute. I would understand it, if I watched the whole movie. :<
I understand where you're going with the tracing and using it as a reference. I have thought about that, and I have to say, that I agree with you.

I never made any statements as per my own view on tracing. I pointed to the policy that takes such a ludicrous stance on fanart/tracing. Have you read it yet?
And thanks ^^

The funny thing is that man has his own website and a fan zone on the site. The world must have gone topsy turvy while I was in the bathroom or something.
