Description Something spontaneous. I tried my best to make them look like early men without making them seem too primitive.

We are all like Cain. Think about it

That's really sad . . . a very dramatic and moving depiction. It makes you think

O: Powerful.
It's sort of surreal/creepy to think that this *actually* happened. . .

I really suffer from envy, I guess that makes me like Cain, but don't worry....I'm not proud of that one bit. Great picture btw.

We all suffer from envy once in a while. Its what we do about it that separates us from the rest. God bless you

yeah we are...just in a less violent way ...most of us anyways

Violence was a crucial characteristic of the stone age. We don't expect Cain to plot against Abel, so a knockout was inevitable XD

Great job creating a violent sense of movement. That's a quality that a lot of artists find elusive.

Blimey! I've only seen one depiction of the First Murder before, and that was in my old Children's Bible in 365 days book... though in that case we just see Cain in the background walking off, and a bloodied Able lying on the ground in the foreground. (Nothing horribly graphic - it is a children's Bible)

Anyway, this is certainly a brutal looking rendition! Great job there!

I've seen that picture too and I love it! I just wanted to feel the intensity of Cain's envy

The one from Lion Publishing?
That's certainly the one I have - 'course, it's old and battered, and the front cover is detached from the rest of it, but it's something we've kept from when I was little. I ought to repair it...
Sometimes, I even dig it out again to read over a year (with reference to my actual Bible for more details)

when you mea we're all like cain, do you mean that we turned against God violently, or we got horribly jealous with sin we had to remove God from us to feel significant. i really like the art i wouldnt mind having conversations about your thoughts behind it

The Bible never mentions that Cain's sacrifices were inferior to those of Abel's but God wasn't pleased with his heart.

Cain refused to accept the fact that the good he had done on his part was not enough, so he decided to get rid of his competition.

What I mean by we're like him is that we're all Christians by name and we do what we feel is right, but when we see that even our strongest points are nothing in front of God, we take desperate measures.

Actually it kinda does. In Hebrews 11:4 it says "by faith a better sacrifice did Abel offer to God than Cain, through which he was testified to be righteous, God testifying of his gifts, and through it, he being dead, doth yet speak."

Maybe I'm wrong, but I interpret that to mean Cain did not believe/have faith.

Wow...i never really brooded on that part. I guess you're right- maybe you can get me a better caption. I'd gladly put it up and give you credit. Not too long though

I can't think of a better caption. I think the caption you have still fits. I mean, I think we all have had doubts unfortunately.

Sorry for making you wait so long for a response. I've been busy lately and your comment got buried in my inbox.

im pretty sure from how i take it the sacrifice was meant to represent the spilt blood of jesus and cain sacrificed plants while abel sacrificed the finest of his cattle, but the bible is up for personal depiction and interpretation, i cant judge

Chhana In reply to sketcheart [2011-06-09 02:39:32 +0000 UTC]

Totally true. But it wasn't Cain's fault that he ended up a farmer *lol. Anyway, better captions are always welcome

There are a variety of acceptable offerings in the OT, and they have varied signficance. Offerings of the fruit of the ground were authorized later on in the Levitical code (Lev 2:1-16; Deut 26:2) but the Bible never says they are accepted when offered without faith and a contrite heart. Based on Cain's behavior in this image, he evidently had neither.

Hm...I'm guilty of both of those things you mentioned. Perhaps the artist (Sorry, I can't tell if your a boy of girl >_<) meant we are like Cain in both those ways.
