Description
The kumiho (gumiho) is a creature that appears in the tales and legends of Korea1. According to ancient Chinese folklore myths, a fox that lives a thousand years is transformed into a kumiho, as are its Japanese and Chinese counterparts2. 2 It then acquires, among other things, the power to transform itself into a beautiful woman to seduce men, in order to eat their liver or heart (according to legend). There are many tales in which the kumiho appears. A number of them can be found in the Korean Encyclopaedic Abstract of Oral Literature (한국 구비문학 대계).
