Description This was my submission for the Hey Arnold Creative Ideas Facebook Group ([link] ) 30 Day Drawing Challenge Day 14: Song Cover Art

We were supposed to pick a song that represents a character or tells a story similar to a character's story, then illustrate that song's story using the characters to create a song cover art.

I chose Outside Looking In by Jordan Pruitt (it was in the Disney Channel Movie Read it and Weep) because it really fits with Patty's situation of people not knowing who she really is, how people make fun of her, and how she is all alone because of it. Here's the link to a lyrics vid for those who haven't heard the song: [link] This was the only day I didn't finish 100% on time. I completed the sketch the day of, but I was too exhausted after work to ink and color it.

Day 15: [link]

Hey Arnold belongs to Craig Bartlett and Nickelodeon.

Poor Patty. I love her character so much...she's so sweet. And Helga's got her mouth open, probably talking about her. Bad Helga.

Good drawing by the way.

Yeah. I love Patty's character too because she is down-to-earth and very sweet as you said.
Yep, Helga and the 6th grade girls are making fun of her. At least Helga learns to be nice.

Thank you!

Thank you so much!
Yeah, Patty's one of the sweetest characters! I love all the scenes where the characters realize that and become friends with her! It's such a good example to kids!

x3333 No problem at all!

Yeah 8D I really love her episodes. I miss stuff like that. There arent many morals in kids shows these days

Yeah, I agree it's rare to find a kid's show with morals these days. There are some--like Phineas and Ferb, Good Luck Charlie, Legend of Korra, and How to Rock--but none have the level of morals that shows like Hey Arnold, Boy Meets World, and Family Matters did.

Yeah. Definitely. Man, I liked soooo many cartoons as a kid and these days there are only a few that are even worth my time. I mean, as a kid, I never had to be told "You cant watch that cartoon channel" and these days cartoons have too much adult humor. Not gonna lie that the ones i grew up with didnt but atleast it was subtle and as a kid I didnt understand it all. Oh how things have changed

ROFL, I sound like an old person now

I feel like most people in our generation sound like old people when talking about how good cartoons and shows were when we were kids. But it's true that things have changed, and in such a short time span! Cartoons definitely were given more credit back then, and the networks had more faith in them so they produced more. They had more depth in their stories and characters and their messages meant they were for more than just cheap laughs. I think the cartoons have the about the same amount of adult humor, but it's less subtle as you said so kids are actually able to pick up on it.

Me too. I LOVE the scene where Harold stands up to Sid and Stinky, though, and the scene where Rhonda defends Patty against the 6th grade girls. Such good examples of resisting peer pressure and being a friend to those who are misunderstood or alone!

Hey, great scene. It really shows Patty's usual state among the school's hierarchy.

Thanks!
Well, I wanted to show the characters that specifically made fun of her or shunned her, and Arnold was never mean to Patty. So uhh I guess Arnold's either still in line for food, or he's eating outside with all the other classmates that likely would have sat with Patty.

Very, VERY ggod art, loved it and the story it may imply!

May we have it in our group, please?

( Actually, I thik we should set up a drawing challenge there, too - so please may you give some directiosn towards that? Iยดm also looking after such Creative Ideas Facebook Group you linked above )

Aww, thank you so much!
I clicked the accept request button, so it should be in the group now! It makes me really happy you wanted to put it in the group, so thank you!

That'd be cool if the group had a drawing challenge too (so long as it wasn't the exact same time as the 30 day one--that might be a bit overwhelming for people @_@). was in charge of the 30 Day challenge and she came up with all the prompts so they'd increase in difficulty each day. The Creative Ideas group does mini-challenges, where posts random ideas, and weekly challenges where a theme is picked by whoever won the previous week's challenge. Perhaps having group members suggest themes or specific situations to draw and you guys could post a new challenge every week in the group based on that? Hope that helps!

HAROLD! GO GIVE PATTY A HUG! SHE NEEDS ONE! XD

Very nice. It's a bit heartbreaking - which is a good thing. Excited to keep seeing what you drew for the challenge.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

ChibiSunnie In reply to LycoRogue [2012-06-23 01:16:35 +0000 UTC]

I agree, though, Harold needs to give her a hug, and one of the groups needs to invite her to sit at their table--there's at least one empty chair at each table! I purposely didn't show Harold's face, so maybe he's about to get mad like he did in Hey Harold. Love that part of the ep.

Thank you so much! And I'm glad you're excited to see my drawings!

The title made me think more of that Staind song called Outside...

I'm on the outside, I'm looking in,
I can see through you, See your true colors,
Cause inside your ugly, ugly like me,
I can see through you, see to the real you

Words by Aaron Lewis.

Oooh that would fit for Patty too since she can see what they're all really like and how mean they all can be!

Yes all because of her size. Just like Classism and Racism

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

ChibiSunnie In reply to BorisFedorov [2012-06-23 01:25:55 +0000 UTC]

Yep, it's really sad that people shun, bully, and judge others based solely on physical features that they have no control over. I've done research on bullying, and the most common reasons youth say they were bullied were for appearance. But like you said, classism and racism are big issues too. I really hope all the movements towards tolerance and respect for others that are going on can shape the younger generations so that all of these can become issues of the past.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

BorisFedorov In reply to ChibiSunnie [2012-06-23 01:36:13 +0000 UTC]

Yes and I bet would of put those theme's in Hey Arnold if they put a Black or Latino ghetto in hillwood.

ChibiSunnie In reply to BorisFedorov [2012-06-26 03:48:32 +0000 UTC]

Hey Arnold did such a great job of addressing tough issues, it's likely that those themes also might have been in there if it had gotten more seasons or if they had made the Patakis.
